Speed Reading
With the vast amount to information that a child need to read, they will have a competitive advantage if they are able to speed read without losing the meaning of the material.
A normal person read around 125 words per minute, a speed reader can easily read 500 - 1000 words per minute.
Reading is a process of converting words into its corresponding meaning. The problem with reading is that most of us are trained from young to read at the speed of our speech, which greatly reduce our redeading speed. Our brain can process words at a faster speed than our speech, this is where most speed reading techniques come into play.
The reading process is usually as follows:
words (visually)->words (verbally)->meaning

Pittsburg Cancer Centre Warns of Cell Phone Risks To Children
By JENNIFER C. YATES and SETH BORENSTEIN, Associated Press Writers
Thu Jul 24, 7:13 AM ET
PITTSBURGH - The head of a prominent cancer research institute issued an unprecedented warning to his faculty and staff Wednesday: Limit cell phone use because of the possible risk of cancer.
The warning from Dr. Ronald B. Herberman, director of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, is contrary to numerous studies that don't find a link between cancer and cell phone use, and a public lack of worry by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Herberman is basing his alarm on early unpublished data. He says it takes too long to get answers from science and he believes people should take action now — especially when it comes to children.
"Really at the heart of my concern is that we shouldn't wait for a definitive study to come out, but err on the side of being safe rather than sorry later," Herberman said.
