All about ortho-k lenses - My daughter's myopia journey

I heard of ortho-k lense 4 years ago. At that time, my daughter's myopia just started with 50 degree at K1, then jump to 100+ once she entered to p1. I refused to let her wear the normal spectacle as I believe that would make eyesight even worse from my past experience (Did you see anyone with myopia getting better or myopia being controlled by wearing normal minus lenses? The answer is No.) so I did research and tried many methods to improve her eyesight, such as bates method, eye massage, see the wall chart, eye exercise, let her eat the eyefood and worn plus lenses for a years, etc.

Our trip to Universal Studios Singapore

During this school holiday, we've bought our daughter to newly-opened Universal Studio Singapore. If the tourists want to go into the Universal Studio on the day itself, they will be disappointed as it is always FULL house. We booked our ticket one week in advance. Adult ticket is $66. Child above 3 years old is about $46. My hubby bought the express ticket, added in additional $20 per person. i.e. you could jump queue, people who brought express ticket would have privilege to go to express lane of each ride/activity.

Child friendly trip in Beijing

I recently bought my P2 child to Beijing. The weather is fantastic during June. not too hot and not too cold.

We are on our own, not joining any tour. The places that we went are not common sight-seeing location for adult, but they are all great for kids. My child enjoy this trip very much.

Here is our itinerary:

Day 1: 蟹岛 (highly recommended)
location: 东苇路,east suburb of Beijing. you can take a taxi there.
It is just a name, not a island and there is no crab there too.
There are a lot of stuff to play inside:
-mini theme park
-fishing (with airconditioning)
-mini zoo.

My daughter loves the mini zoo the best. It is better than Beijing zoo as the child can interact with the animal in near distance.
The entrance fee is only RMB5. you can bring your own vegetable or buy from there at rmb 3 per packet. You can feed all the animal there.
money, eagle, farm animal like rabbit, duck, goose, cow, goat, pig, etc. We saw peacock open up the tail too.

near by 蟹岛, on the same road, there is a 金盏郁金香花园。
you can pick fresh organic vegetable and fruit there.
There is a indoor swimming complex, just like our wild wild wet.

Review of latest Passion Ezlink card

I just went pass the Giant supermarket today. There is a booth there to register for the new program - Passion ez-link card.

It is the replacement of the old passion card that you can:
- earn points at fairprice plus supermarket, and other defined shop..
The link point is not longer available after March 31, 2010.
- get rebate and CC.

The new card has two features, both ezlink card and link point rebate card.

- You can shop and earn point at Giant (my favorite supermarket, visit at least once a week), cold storage, guardian, marketplace, shop n save).
- each $1 spent =$1 point, get 150 point to redeem $1 value rebate.
- The card is valid for 5 years, @$15. Now promotion at only $12.
- get discount from CC classes
- sign up the card, then get a Free Fila shoping bags worth of $49.
- existing passion card member can upgrade to the new card with cheaper rate, but no free gift though.

My old passion card expired. My husband still have old passion card left for 1 year. but he won't use CC facility anyway. I decides to sign up not because of the free gift, it is because my child has enrichment at CC and I shop at Giant often.

Taiwan holiday - child friendly free & easy tour

Our family had just came back from 4 days' Taipei vacation.
We brought out P2 daughter there and she enjoyed her trip.
I did the booking for the air tickets and hotel online.
The weather during March school holiday was around 15-25 degree.
so it is ideal temperature for traveling. Hooray! finally we got out of singapore humid weather!

We took the SQ flight (promotion rate: 664/person) and arrived at Taipei airport. We stayed at Sheraton hotel. As recommended by a Taiwan mum, we took a direct bus(大有巴士) from airport to hotel which cost NT225 (Adult:NT90, child:NT45) for a hour's drive. If you took a taxi, it would be a lot expensive (about NT1200).

Transportation:Just in front of the hotel, there is a mrt station called "善道寺站". There were day tickets which you can took as many rides as you can in a day that costs NT200.

Chinese Flashcards Fun Game

Leaning Chinese will never be boring. The simple flashcards are not only use for recognition of chinese character, but also can use in different way, such as
reviewing words learnt, making words & sentence, practice child's math skill (multiplication, addition, substration).

I am using "Zi Bao Bao" flashcard. Normally the lower primary students will be required to purchase.

1. I ask my child to lay the cards on the table in rows. She has to read the card when she display it.

2. once she has done, she needs to calculate how many cards in each row and how many rows. e.g. 7 cards in each row, there were 3 rows.
so she will use multiplication to calculate the total. 7x3=21cards

3. We start to play game. Each person can collect the cards whenever she/he can match two cards or more card to create words or sentence or idoms. Whoever has the more cards gathered wins the game. (addition, substraction will be needed in this case).

My girl loves to play this game with me. In the meantime, I also temporarily put down my serious/fierce face during study time, and enjoy my bonding time with her too.
