A trip to Singapore Mushroom Farm

Have been reading some articles on the benefits of mushrooms & started introduce more mushrooms to our diet. Finally arranged a day to make a trip down to our local mushroom farm. Below is a short review from my DD.

One Saturday, my mum decided to bring us to a mushroom farm at Jalan Kayu. My brother & I actually went there before, which was organised by our Childcare Centre. This is the 1st time my parents went there.

When we reached there, we saw many houses where mushrooms are grown inside. A very friendly uncle guided us to some of the houses to let us see how the mushrooms grow. When we stepped into the house, oh, it's so cold.  Guess how cold is it. It is 15°C.

Agaricus Blazei Murill Mushroom (巴西蘑菇)

Recently watched a DVD on a seminar about Colorectal cancer conducted by a Taiwan doctor in Yr2005. Colorectal cancer is the 1st cancer affecting Singapore men & the 2nd cancer affecting Singapore women. The doctor mentioned that there is a type of mushroom that is very good in controlling the spreading of cancer cells. That is Agaricus Blazei Murill Mushroom (巴西蘑菇).
 
What is Agaricus blazei Murill?
 
Agaricus blazei Murill originates in Piedade, a small village in the Atlantic forest near Sao Paulo, Brazil. In 1960, a Japanese researcher named Takatoshi Furumoto discovered it and sent it to Japan in 1965 for study. Agaricus is well known as a medicinal mushroom, especially in Japan, due to published research indicates Agaricus exhibit anticancer activity, may halt cancer growth, may increase immune cells and make immune cells more powerful. It is also a popular food that has low calorie content and is mineral rich. It contains important fibers, vitamins and amino acids.

«朱子治家格言»

I believe a lot of parents already know «弟子规». I happened to borrow a book «朱子治家格言» from library, which I think is also very good to read. This is written by 朱柏庐, a famous educator during Qing dynasty and this is his family motto (家训).
原文：
黎明即起，洒扫庭除，要内外整洁。既昏便息，关锁门户，必亲自检点。一粥一饭，当思来处不易．半丝半缕，恒念物力维艰。宜未雨而绸缪，毋临渴而掘井。自奉必须俭约，宴客切勿留连。器具质而洁，瓦缶胜金玉。饮食约而精，园蔬胜珍馐。勿营华屋，勿谋良田。

Baking Fun @ Bakerzin

It is so sad to know that Bakerzin has no longer providing baking workshop for kids. My DD loves doing her bakery there.
As I dun have oven at home, we are unable to bake cake at home. As DD loves to eat cakes, I’m wondering how’s her interest in baking a cake. Happened to know that Bakerzin has kid baking workshop so I enrolled her for a try. She went for her 1st bakery class on May 2009.
As this is the 1st lesson, she received a chef hat & apron before the start of the class. After wearing the apron & hat, she went to wash her hands.
Was watching her outside the classroom wondering how she was going to handle those flour, eggs, butter, etc… To my surprise, she picked up the skill pretty well. With the instructor’s help, she was able to do these.

Bringing up a kid with great personality

最好不要对孩子说下面十句话：

1.你为什么就不能够像--- …孩子被对比,很可能增加他们本能的敌对情绪,甚至耿耿于怀.
应该向孩子讲清楚你的具体要求.重点放在你希望他改变的不良行为上.

2.你怎么这么不懂事被话刺伤的孩子只会心生叛逆,把事情弄得更糟.
要和颜悦色,耐心讲理,才能达到预期的目的.

3.你简直笨到家了这话只能使他们的心灵受到极大伤害.有的因此产生自卑感,不求上进.
家长正面积极的鼓励和卓有成效的帮助,才是让孩子养成良好习惯和掌握生活本领的根本方法.
