For mothers whose child is diagnosed with autism

My dd1 was also diagnosed to be ASD when she was about 3yo. It turned dh and my world outside down. Life was never the same after that. I can still recall the anguish and turmoil that we went thru. And yet, the diagnosis helped to explain the many "mysteries" surrounding her behaviour.

The positive thing is that, in discovering early, you can start your child on early intervention. This is very important as it will help her and your family cope with AS much more effectively

What we did with our daughter's lazy eye

lazyeyeThis is what we did with our daughter's lazy eye... Hope it gives other parents a better idea of what to expect if they think their child have lazy eyes.

Getting a referral
It is best to go to a specialist to have your child's eyes checked.

You could go to the polyclinic to get a referral to KKH Children's Eye Clinic or NUH.

Planning for higher education besides the local universities

When helping your child to choose a tertiary institution for higher education, it is important to do your homework before you and your child commits on the university and course of study. Here are some suggestions on what to look out for if your child has just completed “A” levels or Poly diploma and wish to consider higher education.

1. Ensure that the local service provider (or private institution) is established
I know this can be difficult to determine, but visit their websites and their offices/ local campuses to have an idea on how big the campuses are. It helps if the service provider is an established brand name in Singapore and has been around for some time. You don’t want to sign up and they run away with your money.

However, having said that, nothing is guaranteed. A few years ago, even an established service provider closed down due to mismanagement.

Five Things to Keep The Romance In Our Marriage Alive

Just for fun…

As parents, we are often caught up with the daily grind of looking into our children’s affairs, swotting over work and battling with household chores that never seem to end. We seem to give our time to everyone else except to ourselves and, perhaps, our significant other.

Of late, there has been much discussions in the Relationships thread on topics like “Extra Marital Affairs”, “Cheating Spouses”, “Spouse or Child First?”, “Temptations”, which can ben rather depressing and disconcerting to read at times.

Increasingly, we hear and read of stories, and even know of friends or relatives who are going through a rough patch in their marriage.

Surviving Normal Stream

Too often on KSP forum, we read about students who do exceedingly well in school and get excellent results for all their exams, be it GEP streaming or PSLE. Most likely, we read with envy and wish our kids have the study smarts too!

Managing Free Riders in Group Projects

Group work has its pros and cons.

Some students and parents may find group work a chore and a waste of time, especially if they have to contend with team members who are lazy, irresponsible, aggressive in their ideas (everyone must listen to his ideas) and those who practise NATO (no action, talk [a lot] only).

In the end, it is usually the responsible team member(s) who spend more time fire fighting and coordinating the work than producing quality work itself.

However, that is not to say that group work is not without its benefits and learning values. Here are some of my thoughts of group work.

Objectives of group work:
