Kiasu Analysis of 2009 PSLE Results
It's the time of the year to do our Kiasu Analysis of PSLE results once again!
Finding #1 - Top Honors
2009 is the Year of the Underdogs. It is Episode 4 - A*Star Wars - A New Hope. While 9 of the Top 17 National students are from top tier GEP schools, a staggering 7 out of 17 students are from schools that used to be classified as Unworthy-of-PV-Effort. This is unprecedented in recent PSLE history.

Good luck to all students and parents of students who have participated in the PSLE 2009. May you get the results you deserve. Celebrate if you achieve what you wanted. Reflect on how you will improve yourself if you get less than what you hoped for. And regardless of whatever you score, plan on what you want to achieve 4 to 6 years down the road and start preparing TODAY towards that goal.
Achieving academic excellence is a marathon, not a sprint.
Understanding The Singapore Primary School Registration Processes

The annual Singapore Primary One Registration Exercise is meant for 6 year old children who are Singaporean Citizens or Permanent Residents to register for Primary One in the following year. The age of the child eligible for registration is dependent on the calendar year - as long as the child will turn 7 before 2nd Jan of the following year, he/she must be registered in the Registration Exercise of the current year.
This means that the age difference between the youngest and oldest child in the cohort can be as much as an entire year.

We've provided the Average APP of each school from 2006-2008 which represents the % of applicants over the number of available vacancies for Phase 2C. This should provide parents with some idea of what their chances are, based on historical averages. The standard deviation is provided to indicate the margin of error - assuming a normal distribution, the confidence level that the APP this year will be within 1 Standard Deviation of the Average APP (ie. Average APP ± Standard Deviation) is 68%.
