Fun Learning Yard at Mandai Orchid Garden
I would like to introduce parents this place for a weekday/weekend family gathering or for physics tuition by the founder of F.L.Y. .
I am a mother of two and been pestered by my kids to go to Singapore Science Centre last March Holidays. Of course, tickets to enter Singapore Science Centre isn't cheap and as a cost conscious mother, I will like them to learn as many things as possible that is worth that kind of money. My dilemma has been solved two weeks ago when I found a newspaper article regarding a place named Fun Learning Yard(F.LY.) situated at Mandai Orchid Garden. It offers science courses and also some mini art activities for children. This attracted me. Therefore, I brought my kids to F.L.Y. instead of the Singapore Science Centre. When I arrived with my kids, the staff welcome me with a smile and introduce me to F.L.Y.

My Pals Are Here!: Science Booster
"Besides understanding the facts & concepts, the child must be able to spell the keywords (to avoid losing marks for wrong spelling) correctly and answer fully. Example, there are questions which shows 2 pictures : 1 is a chick with a water dish, 1 is just a chick. Question asks, which one will survive longer and why. If answer is 'It has water', you get 1/2 mark. Answer is 'Chick needs water to survive and chick A has water', you get 1 mark. These are the tricky areas that we have to point out to the child. How to Teach Primary School Science
With the new science syllabus, the emphasis on hands on learning is massive. Personally, I find that due to this very reason, the foundation layer step is being taken quite lightly.
Hands on experimental learning enhances the understanding of the topics but the knowledge of the topics need to be there. It bring forth the empasis on theoretical knowledge which the child has learnt.
One approach would be,
1. Draw out a topical concept map. This would help your child in terms of remembering the key words to the particular concepts.
