Innovative art drawing is specially designed to provide students with an effective and a very creative way of drawing and learning.  Based on the scientific research on child psychology, the program integrates the training of both BRAIN and ART to effectively raise the student's learning ability, their IQ, EQ and CQ.

What is Mental Arithmetic Training?

It is a combination of mental and the science of logic.  The child only need to maintain calm and have full concentration, and will gain total growth of mental agility and clarity through calculation of numbers.  Thus, the synergy of left and right brain is achieved when performing mental arithmetic.  It is also a key to development of intelligence.  Through our training, the brain of the child will be boosted and nurtured into a Smart Brain!

What are the benefits of Mental Arithmetic?

It is a mental development training which will enhance a child learning capability and remove the hurdles of learning.  Hence, the child is able to concentrate on learning, expand of his memory, increase his understanding and enhance his logical judgement.  These 4 elements would build a solid foundation for the child to face the ever changing and competitive environment.

What's the Best Age for a Child to Start Mental Arithmetic Training?

According to a survey, a child that trained in mental arithmetic, his concept of numbers and knowledge will be better than those not being trained.  His learning capability will be developed and established much earlier.  Therefore the best age of a child to start mental arithmetic training is 4 years old.

Why Mental Arithmetic is Able to Develop Brain Power ? (The Mental Arithmetic Process)

Mental arithmetic starts from capturing of numbers.  And with the help of visual, audio, sense of touch and movement, the numbers are being imported into the brain.  By combining the knowledge of numbers that are already in the memory, with imagination, reasoning and judgement, the brain will give out instruction to the fingers to move the beads and start calculation process.

From this point, the method of calculation using beads are being transferred to the brain.  Hence mental arithmetic is a method of calculation by integrating thinking and movements.

While having visual of the beads, the child is able to memorise the numbers immediately as well as performing virtual movement of beads and calculation at the same time.  Thus, strong power of thinking, memory, concentration and imagination are established.

Seedlings Montessori Programme recognises the learning potential of a young child.  As such, the centre utilises professionally trained teachers and specially designed teaching materials to help the child realise his potential.

Montessori also recognises in children a natural curiosity and desire to learn: the Montessori Materials awaken this desire and channel that curiosity into a learning experience which children enjoy.  Montessori Materials help children understand what they learn by associating an abstract concept with a concrete sensorial experience.  In this manner, the Montessori Programme also stresses that children learn and progress at their own pace.

The Montessori Environment

Practical Life activities enhance the development of task organisation and cognitive order through care of self, care of the environment, exercises of grace and courtesy, and coordination of physical movement.

Sensorial Skills enables the child to order, classify, and describe sensory impression in relation to length, width, temperature, mass, colour, pitch, etc.

Mathematics makes use of manipulative materials to enable the child to intenalise concepts of number, symbol, sequence, operations and memorization of basic facts.

Language (English and Chinese) includes oral language development, written expression, reading and the study of grammar, creative dramatisation, and children’s literature. Basic skills in writing and reading are developed through the use of sandpaper letters, alphabet cut-out and various presentation. These allow the children to link sounds and letter symbols (strokes and hanyupinyin) effortlessly and to express their thoughts through writing.

Cultural and Social Studies provide activities that expose the child to basics in geography, history and sciences. Art, Music and Movement education are part of this integrated social curriculum.

Reading Scheme is designed to help children learn to read following a Guided Reading Approach. Seedlings adopts this approach as it helps the children to be engaged in the Individual reading process, learning at their own pace, developing their listening, speaking and observational skills. Nurturing them to have critical thinking and analytical minds. At the same time building children self-esteem and confidence and most of all instills in them the love for books, as reading is the key to a wonderful world of knowledge.

Multiple Intelligences Curriculum

We identify and match intelligences among the children, deliver the curriculum through a range of stimuli, and celebrate the unique pattern of each child by understanding and stretching their different intelligences:

  • Verbal/Linguistic
    • Through written and spoken words, children acquire skills such as listening, speaking, reading, writing, encoding and decoding language.
  • Logical/Mathematical
    • The child is able to recognise patterns, relations, numbers and symbols, thus which helps him or her learn about problem solving, reasoning, and develop logical and numerical skills.
  • Visual/Spatial
    • With the ability to identify colour, shape and distance, the child will develop the sense of direction, architecture, painting, sculpting, arranging and decorating.
  • Musical/Rhythmic
    • By composing, performing, appreciating, recognizing music the child will develop a sense of rhythm, pitch and timbre.
  • Bodily/Kinesthetic
    • The child is able to give bodily cues by dancing, catching, throwing, jumping, handling objects, moving with grace and precision.
  • Naturalist
    • The child will cultivate a green thumb, love animals, and the ability to discriminate, recognize, categorize, and analyse flora, fauna, rocks and clouds.
  • Interpersonal
    • The child is able to understand and connect with others and will be a good team member.
  • Intrapersonal
    • The child is able to identify self-knowledge, self-concept and evaluation.
