The Child is Father of Man

Ever wonder what this means.... I read this in sec 2 literature ... The prelude by William Wordsworth

sad to say I only realized what it meant now .... And this is how I interpret it

 you only can learn about yourself after looking at your child and see yourself...in him or her ... This realization about yourself is the key to life ....... Your child is you ....

Know thyself

Are you referring to this:

Are you referring to this:

          My heart leaps up when I behold
              A rainbow in the sky:
          So was it when my life began;
          So is it now I am a man;
          So be it when I shall grow old,
              Or let me die!
          The Child is father of the Man;
              I could wish my days to be
          Bound each to each by natural piety.

IMO, William Wordsworth was celebrating the innocent curiosity of the child, and prays that he will continue to retain this quality always, as long as he lives.  He feels that life is not worth living if one loses his innate ability to appreciate the marvels of life and nature.

So even as the child becomes the man, in spite of our experiences and knowledge that brings wisdom and enlightenment on how life works, we should continue to live our days in appreciative wonder of life.

Yes, it is a timely reflection for fathers, who can relive their childhood memories through their children, and remember how, once, we used to be like them - curious, innocent, and full of hope for the future.
