Do your child have any difficult trying to remember certain chinese words? Actually, a lot of chinese characters are derived from shapes and appearances of objects. It is easlier to associating them with actual form of these objects, making the learning fun and interesting.

I bought these series of books called 字形画 from popular (King of the chinese series published by Arts publishing of singapore pte ltd.) . It helps my child to recognized most commonly used words in her kindergarten age. In this book series (total 3 books), it has about 120 modern pictographic characters- character pictures that are fun to look at the easy to remember.

With their vivid visual impact, the lively character pictures encourage bi-directional association, which scientifically empowers the bright brain, and make the child remember with ease. The good thing about this book is to separate the words from picture.

On the left hand side of page, it collect all information including han yu pi yin for the word, no. of stroke, writing order, common words and phrases, etc. it also has no only chinese explanation but also english explanation which is useful for our singapore english speaking background students.

On the right side of page. it has the big and colorful picture of the chinese words, also its history derivation.

Teaching plan suitable for kindergarten or lower primary kids:

Each day, teach 1-2 words, or more if you child can absorb more.

Try to follow 5 the steps:

1. 拼一拼，read the han yu pin yin

2。读一读 read the word

3。认一认 recognize the word

4。记一记 remember the word

5。写一写 write the word.

On the next day, before you teach another 2 new words, revise the 1st 2 words, etc.  Revise the all the words learned after 1 unit.
