Planning for a short getaway to Genting (3days 2night) in Aug...Besides my family (hubby, Me, 3yr gal, 2 yr son & maid), my in-laws and relatives will be coming along....Can you share your experience with me? Is Genting "child-friendly"? What about First World Hotel? I've got some concern becoz:

1) I am 4 mths preggy now....dunno whether i can tahan the 6hrs drive to Genting in the coach? ever since my pregnancy, i have not travel more than 2hrs but i look at preggy mummies flying to Hongkong, Japan, etc at ease, if they can do it, i think i shld be able right ? Any preggy mummies to share your experience?

2) I am bringing my maid along, is there any special permit, etc that i need to take out before she leave Singapore with us?

3) My son is still drinking formula milk, not sure whether First World Hotel include electric kettle to boil water? Those who has stayed at this hotel before, pls share your experience with me....like things to request from hotel before hand, what type of room, etc...

4) Which theme park, rides more appropriate for my 2 children? is it worth it to get the day pass?

Thank you in advance & have a fulfilling and stress free Monday ahead!!

Hi,

First world hotel is a very basic hotel so you will not find kettle,etc... but they do have a central water dispensing machine. Note that the rooms are quite small too but for 2 adults and 2 very young kids, it sb ok.

Despite that, we choose to stay at first world because it is very convenient. The theme park is just downstairs. My youngest went to genting was she was around 3 yr old. She did both indoor and outdoor theme parks simply because her siblings are older. I think indoor has more rides for kids of this age eg. ferris wheel, merry go round,etc... and it might be advisable to get a full day pass especially if the kids are going for more than 1 round. There is a family pass for 2 A and 2 C. Note that there are special rates online.

For Indo maid, there is no need for special pass.

Errr, I think driving holiday more difficult to tahan than flying. But at 4 months, should be manageable I guess. You need to bring along your maid's work permit or she may be denied re-entry to Singapore.

Seems like quite a lot of ppl, driving there or taking coach?

Been on various self driving roadtrips to Cameron, Genting, Terranganu etc with preggy wife, rowdy kid & infant, so I will opt for driving if feasible as pace & progress is more manageable, not forgetting all the barang barang (slow cooker etc etc).

I recommend Resort Hotel, no doubt there are some walking (its a holiday anyway :)). Amenities are aplenty & you get all the basic of staying in a decent hotel. Connecting rooms can be requested, so tat you can get ur in-law to look after the kids while u attend to ur own stuffs

(2) & (3) already been addressed, so I will go to (4). Get the indoor day pass, as all the suitable rides for your kids are indoor, you will find them asking for the carousol & kiddo bumper car, again & again :)

If your maid is an indonesian or filipina, just bring along her passport and work permit. But if she's of other nationality, you may have to check if she requires a visa to enter malaysia. Previously, my Sri Lankan maid had to queue half a day at the M'sia embassy to get her visa. Hope this helps.

Genting is ok for kids. I brought my kids there when they were 2 years old. In my own opinion, Genting Hotel is better than First World. Rooms are bigger and nicer. You can also have easy access to the indoor/outdoor theme parks. As for travel to Genting, u should probably opt for those superior coaches that carry only 18-21 passengers. Leg rooms are good and very comfortable.

It would be best that you check with your gynae if you are fit to travel.

If you don't mind paying a little more for comfort at First World Hotel, try the superior Deluxe Room. It's much more spacious than the Standard Rooms. And if you can afford to splurge a little more, try the Worldclub Room (at First World Hotel too). The room is big enough for my 2 kids to play catch :D Electric kettles are provided in both room types.

There are 2 towers at First World Hotel - Tower 1 and Tower 2. Tower 2 is the newer building. So as far as possible, request to stay in Tower 2. Last but not least, ask for non-smoking level/room when you are checking in at the hotel.

If you intend to return again, it would be best to purchase an annual package. Otherwise, you can choose between the single day pass and 2-days pass. For us, we got the annual family package 2A2C at abt 400 ringgits.

Will you be purchasing the passes online? If not, I would advise you to decide on indoor vs outdoors passes when you reached there. We went there just 2 weeks ago. The weather was pretty chilly and misty. Not the kind of weather you want a young child to be playing outdoors.

I agree on the outdoor passes. Buy only when you are there. There was one trip that we bought online. When we were, it was drizzling and very misty. We can't change the date or get a refund. In the end, we went for those rides that has shelter and fortunately, the weather clear up a little later on.

Another thing to add is that u can actually request to "jump" queue when you check-in to the hotel.

The previous time I was there with hub, 2 gals and sis....we blur blur queue and waited for our number...and waited for 3hrs.

Our coach arrived at 2pm, and we only mgmed to get our room at 5pm.

Then a singaporean woman with her hubby & son told us that we can actually jump queue, juz hve to go to the counter upon getting ur number n tell the staff that u are pregnant and with kids, no nit to wait so long for the room.

Happy holiday!

I've travelled up when I was preggy too, think u just need to set a pace u are comfortable with, rest often and walk about often at rest stops.. u need to ensure good blood circulation ya..

I agree that first world hotel is quite small if u get the standard rooms.. we usually make sure we get the Club rooms, there is an express check in counter for club room as well.. Tower 2 is newer but Tower 1 is much bigger becos of the layout. Tower 2 has bathtub i think, tower 1 doesn't. and in tower 1, the twin sharing is double bed size so it is much bigger, and more convenient if u need to share a bed with a child.

There are rides for younger children outdoors too, a playground as well as some family rides.. but its best to check the weather before buying ya? There is a map at the ticket counter, listing down all the rides and criteria for u to look at before deciding whether they are suitable for ur kids.. most ride have height restrictions too.. Hope this helps.. have fun!
