Travel: Singapore - Pualu Ubin

School terms keep kids in school and parents sane. Holidays can be boring to kids if they are left alone. Discuss vacation ideas and how to make good use of the free time for both children and adults.

Go book Naked Hermit Crab (http://nakedhermitcrabs.blogspot.com/)free-walking session. This free-walking is two hours+ and does not include walking on the mud-banks.

Ideally, we should visit during low-tide, nevertheless there are a lot of attractions (even horNbills !)

Do take note :
- cycling is recommed for thoe with confidence, too many slopes for kids
- mosquito near the tower are very fierce. Small but potent, and show no fear of repellant (wear long sleeve shirt for kids)
- drink lots of water
- you can diy tour but might miss out some interesting "corners"

Look at out blog to see how much fun three families enjoyed last week !

Would rate Chek Jawa 8.5/10 for sheer Fun and exploration.

There's only one way to get there (and back). You go to Changi Point (Changi Village) and board a ferry from the jetty. Boats leave when it's full (or when the boatman feels like it).

You can cycle or camp there. Main attraction is experience Singapore as as it was in the 60s - kampungs, plantations, etc. You can checkout the quarry (from the safety of the viewpoints) and Chek Jawa. For more details, see NParks website.

It was Ubin Day just last weekend(13-14 jun). There were some activities lined up. Couldn't make it though - one of the kids fell sick.

Checks tides. I've been meaning to bring kids to visit Chek Jawa but low tides always difficult to fit into our visits. So we just bike around there. Check out website too. NPB conducts guided tours of Chek Jawa. Last time can walk on our own. But now to protect the beach, either walk on board walk or go for guided walks.

Bring insect repellant. DD came back with lots of mozzie bites!

The mozzie bite is my main concern - possible dengue fever!

So far, after our trips over the years, it's just typical mozzies. But DD tends to attract all the mozzies. The rest don't get all that many bites.

And be careful of wild boars. After finishing board walk & returned to pick up bikes, a family of wild boards were at the bikes and we had to wait for them to leave.
