Frankly speaking I have not tried this LB beancurd or it's copies as I am nowhere near where they are selling. I did however try the recipe since I love soya bean curd. When I saw the recipe calling for instant soya bean milk powder instead of fresh soya bean milk, I had my reservations. I tried drinking a cup of the instant soya bean milk, cannot make it, really don't quite like the smell/taste. So when making the jelly, I boiled the water with some pandan leaves. Still cannot make it. So in the end, my dustbin ate all the jelly.
Just get the IsoJoy bean curd jelly from supermarket tofu section lah. Same lah.

What's the name of the store?

Last Saturday morning, I wanted to buy from Lao Ban but it wasn't open yet. I found another store down the same stretch but opposite facing (called 51) and I tried it. Found it to be equally good. Don't need to queue so long next time as there is another good alternative.
I have tried the 51 bean curd too. It is indeed as good as Lao Ban. Original & almond flavor are healthier choice. They are not as sweet as the durian, mango & strawberry flavor.

Same here, find that 51 stall is equally good, but people very funny leh, every time I go to the food centre to buy lunch, passby that area and will see long Q for Lao Ban but 51 which is just a stall away but no body queuing at all!

Somemore the 51 stall now have promotion, buy 5 get 1 free from Monday to Thursday. my sis just bought from them few days ago.

I tried making 2 portions yesterday. Dare not make much and just try try first. I just used the polleney soy powder. I left out the Unisoy powder suggested in the recipe but total protion of soy powder is the same. I just mesaure everything and pour it into previously boiled water that has cooled to room temperature. Then put over low heat and stir constantly until just about to boil. Transfer to small bowls and let them coagulate. Turns out very well. No need even to sieve.

But my kids said no pandan flavour. Maybe, next time boil some water with pandan leaves first efore making.

Was having my lunch there recently. Observed that when it's not peak hr, both 51 & LB also have Q...maybe 4~5 persons. But during peak, the LB Q grew and grew....and 51 totally no business.

Anyway, someone tried the HWZ recipe and the pro-LB family endorsed it!!
are they better than the one at Selegie?

nowadays there are so many flavour of bean curd available in the market - durian, strawberry, almond.....

Selegie's bean curd is the traditional type. The latest fad is different in texture. They are smoother and more jelly-like but very soft.

I saw the recipe and was shocked to see it contains coffee creamer (read : trans fat). Will avoid it now.

there's a stall in Alexandra Village Hawker Center that sells the beancurd pudding. The boss proudly says their recipe does not use soya powder and only uses soya beans. So there is a recipe that uses soya beans and not powder. You'll have to bribe the boss to give you the recipe though, doubt that you'll find it on the web.

creamer is to make it smooth looking....otherwise grainy.

i tried the recipe...then found another one using different coagulant..
http://ieatishootipost.sg/2009/07/how-t ... uring.html

not yet try his method but hope to do so once i m done with the hwz recipe.

so far the recipe in hwz is that i find it abit grainy taste. maybe i did not sieve properly or that i started out with powder form.

thought of trying to do from scratch from soya beans.

anyone tried and solve the grainy issue?
