From your descriptions above, his speech and motor skills development are quite typical of a 2yo. He can ask you questions, can smile and respond to you, can feed himself etc... those are very good milestones. So I do not understand why the KKH doc insists he is autistic. Most kids like to play by themselves sometimes. My son can play with his power rangers and ultraman by himself for hours, doing sound effects and pretend acting etc. He is definitely not autistic.

Your son sounds really intelligent so I am not sure why you think he is autistic. If he is only lacking in social skills, you can still help him by making the conscious effort to interact with him.

Toys to buy:
1) Megabloks / Duplo
2) Figurines of his favorite characters eg. Power Rangers, Ultraman
3) Cooking sets
4) Doctor set
5) Police set
6) Magnetic drawing board
7) Remote Control Car
8) Toy cars with mat showing roads
9) Train set (Thomas the Tank Engine or Chuggington)
10) Dinosaurs

i will say cutting toy fruits as imaginary play.
you can sit with him to see if he offers you any and then go on from there. i think the therapist's focus was on interaction through the imaginary play.
not sure how it works, but can they not assign another doctor to you?

he play with himself, but he will bring up the water melon & look at me and waited for me to say "water melon" then he will say "water melon" & smile in shy.. and carrots & etc.. if he feel like want me to say the items name to him...

if not he play himself...

iF i go assign another doctor, also will wait for next Q, might be long again..Hiaz..

his eye contact is poor too. only recently improve when he start day school. but still quite poor.

sorry if my replies are in bits and pieces as i am trying to read backdated posts.
absent parenting will not lead to autism.
it can however lead to speech impairment, and excessive exposure to tv/dependency on gadgets lead to short attention span.
i am guilty of absent parenting my boy.
he lacked eye contact too before 3.5yo.
i agreed that he did behave rather 'not within the herd' which might have led his teachers to suggest he might have ADHD and got us to seek help (we are awaiting our next bi-yearly review this June and i hope it'll be the last ). thank goodness for us, he 'matured overnight' during a week span around when he was 3.5yr old although his energy level is still an all time high even now (which translate to something beneficial as he is learning stuff at 'twice the speed faster' than his brother....ie when he has nothing to do, he'll complain to me that he 'has nothing in his hands', so i just shove him a book and good that he can read ).

if autism is ruled out, intervention at 2.5yr old will surely help.
you have to adjust your parenting style and such first.

wow so great, i have a list to choose..

KKH doctor say usually kids will naturally include parents to their play.. tat his lacking, and tat autism signs..

and Kids naturally like to lead.. tat also my son lacking. (i think i never allow him to lead before, i always force him to do things he rejected :'( ), never give him a choice....HIAZZ>...

Don't just buy the toys... you must sit down and play with him!

ok i will for now... jus only those days when i studying in evening & weekend i cant.. But Whenever I'm home i will definitely find times to play with him now.. That is my punishment and i have to pay back to 2.5yrs lost of his interaction..

an advice someone gave me is to give my boy extra hugs. if all else fails, he'll still know that i still loves him very much.

My son loves kissing me alot.. Especially when pick him up from cc.

Once he saw me he will quickly look for his belongings n get ready to leave school door.

Ok I will hug him more

do you know any good social skill therapy & OT ?

I only know of 2:

Bridges in Communication => for speech and language therapy (SLT)
Hand-in-Hand => for OT

For group sessions, sometimes social skills can be incorporated in the OT or SLT. It depends on each centre's or therapist's prog for the child. For info, KKH also has its own in-house OT and SLT, so u may want to consider going to them too.

Maybe other parents can help recommend other SLT or OT to helplessmum to give her more options. Tks
