It seems that the top scores this year are lower. Could it be because the Math paper is easier so can't differentiate the very good from the average?

Re-posting my post from the top score thread:

==============
From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primary_Sc ... on#Scoring

The score is calculated based on a bell curve. In each examination subject, a T-Score is computed based on the raw examination score as follows:

Image
where:

T is the T-Score;
x is the student's raw score;
μ is the mean (i.e. average) raw score;
σ is the standard deviation of raw scores.

By definition, then, the average T-Score in each subject is 50. Since there are four examination subjects, the average aggregate score is always 200.
===============

Thus if the mean raw score μ is higher, though the top student's score X is still at 98 or 100, the top student's T score will still be lower.

Please see this link about EESIS.

http://www.moe.gov.sg/initiatives/edusa ... rds/eesis/

I generally agrees that this year cut-off point will definitely lower than last year, probably lower by 3-5 points based on another thread, Top PSLE t-Score 2013, page 19

The EESIS quota for this year may have been increased. Don't think it is now pegged at top 3% n for the gep w 250

A short fall of 5000 students compared to last year will mean more or less a downward trend of COP for everything this year right ?

Maybe that's why they lowered the COP for EESIS, assuming there is a fixed budget, with fewer students, they can lower the COP to fully utilize the funds.

Don't think it's based on budget. Just checked MOE's website, EESIS is awarded based on the following criteria:

"The EESIS are awarded to Singaporean students who are in the top one-third of the total number of secondary 1 pupils admitted to all independent schools (IS)1 , based on their PSLE results."

Can anyone confirmed if they have heard from others the EESIS is awarded to more than the usual 3% for this year?

Another thing must also take into consideration. Heard that each school number of students for 2013 will be lesser than 2012, as there are lesser children.

Not so sure.

This is an interesting thread :smile: .

Looks like most agree that the COPs will be lower this year. So would those with Tscores in the upper 250s (257, 258, 259) consider applying to the Top tier IP schools as their first choice? Seems like some probability of getting in right?

If the RGS, Nanyang, RI, HCI, etc type of schools's COPs go down, then the next tier COPs would be down too.

But if parents are conservative for those in the upper 250s, and choose the 2nd Tier as their first choice, it is possible that the 2nd Tier IP schools' cut off may go up. Then we may see more people appealing after the school allocation :evil:

So what should be the correct strategy for deciding the order of the six schools :sweat: :nailbite:
