2023 P1 Registration Vacancies Per School

Submitted by Chief Kiasu

MOE released the vacancies available for each school, this week.

A total of 39,948 places are available.  This is 720 less than last year’s (2022) cohort of 40,668.  Now, while this may be worrying for you, do keep in mind that that total births that year is only 39,615, so there is really a +333 buffer that MOE has built in for your kids.  This is the first time in the last 7 years since MOE has a positive increase in places vs births.

The chart shows the difference each school has in its offering between this and last year (2022).  As you can see, many schools have lost places (highlighted in RED).  However, there are schools which has gained a large amount of vacancies (highlighted in GREEN).  Telok Kurau Primary, for example, got a record of 50 places, probably worth 2 additional classes.  Boon Lay Garden Primary, on the other hand, lost 120 places, probably about 4 classes.

Looking at the data, I believe the planners at MOE has reviewed the movement of the population across Singapore.  On older and maturing estates like Ang Mo Kio, there is a large loss of places.  In relatively newer estates like Bukit Batok, there is an increase.

Rest assured that there are NO reduction in the vacancies offered by the hot schools, eg. schools in Bishan and Bukit Timah.
