Key Details of Top 2025 Math Olympiads Available for Primary Schools

Raffles Mathematical Olympiad (RMO) by Raffles Institution

RMO Round 1 : 10 April 2025
RMO Round 2 : 9 May 2025

The RMO is a distinguished Math Olympiad known for the unique combination of math together with real-world application to problem-solving. It is considered by many to be the toughest math contest at the primary school level.

Students taking the RMO will be challenged with mathematical questions, known for their depth and creativity, that require the innovative usage of mathematical knowledge as applied to various practical scenarios.

The contest is conducted in 2 rounds. In Round 1, contestants will take part in an online competition held at their respective primary school locations. Round 2 consists of a written test that will be conducted at Raffles Institution.

Invitations for Round 2 will be extended to the top 2% of participants or approximately the top 40 students (whichever is fewer) from the Junior Category, and to the top 3% of participants or around the top 60 students (whichever is fewer) from the Open Category, based on their performance in Round 1.
 

Asia-Pacific Mathematical Olympiad for Primary Schools (APMOPS) by Hwa Chong Institution

APMOPS Round 1: 17 April 2025 (online and hosted in schools)
APMOPS Invitational: 31 May 2025

APMOPS is renowned as one of the oldest and most prestigious Math Olympiad in Singapore. It is ranked as the second most difficult math contest for primary school students. It is also still commonly known by its former name, Singapore Mathematical Olympiad for Primary Schools (SMOPS).

Participants will be faced with intricate mathematical challenges that require both a creative problem-solving mindset and perseverance to be a medal winner.

APMOPS is conducted over 2 rounds of competition. The first round is held in mid April simultaneously at both local schools and overseas locations. Exceptional participants from both local schools and international locations are invited to the APMOPS Invitation Round. This final round occurs during the last week of the first semester school term in Singapore, where participants compete for the highest ranks in the competition.
 

National Mathematical Olympiad of Singapore (NMOS) by NUS High

NMOS : 15 July 2025

NMOS is a nationwide Math Olympiad designed to identify top young mathematicians who can represent Singapore on the international stage. It also serves as a valuable addition to the student’s DSA portfolio for application to NUS High.

While the level of difficulty is pitched at primary 5 and above, the NMOS presents challenging mathematical problems that assess participants’ problem-solving skills and mathematical reasoning ability.

From 2024 onwards, the NMOS is open only to Primary 5 school students and will be conducted in a single round comprising of 35 questions. With just a single round, and eligibility for the NMOS competition limited only to Primary 5 students, 2024 NMOS saw increased competition amongst participants, with fewer gold medals available overall.
 

Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO)

SASMO : 29 March 2025

SASMO is one of the largest Math Olympiad in Asia, with over 20,000 participants from over 20 countries annually.

It is recommended for beginners who are looking for an entry-level Math Olympiad to gain experience with competition math. The questions are designed to allow students to apply previously learned concepts to challenging non-routine questions, rather than testing for knowledge beyond the syllabus.
