Caring For Your Liver

Sharing an article that I received today:

Good rest and sound sleep is very important… if u don’t sleep well, the toxic in your body will accumulate.. affecting your health and your mood…

The main causes of liver damage are:

  • Sleeping too late and waking up too late are the main cause.
  • Not urinating in the morning.
  • Too much eating.
  • Skipping breakfast.
  • Consuming too much medication.
  • Consuming too much preservatives, additives, food coloring, and artificial sweetener.
  • Consuming unhealthy cooking oil. As much as possible reduce cooking oil use when frying, which includes even the best cooking oils like olive oil. Do not consume fried foods when you are tired, except if the body is very fit.
  • Consuming overly done foods also add to the burden of liver. Veggies should be eaten raw or cooked 3-5 parts. Fried veggies should be finished in one sitting, do not store.

We just have to adopt a good daily lifestyle and eating habits. Maintaining good eating habits and time condition are very important for our body to absorb and get rid of unnecessary chemicals according to ‘schedule.’ :

Evening at 9 – 11pm : is the time for eliminating unnecessary/ toxic chemicals (de-toxification) from the antibody system (lymph nodes). This time duration should be spent by relaxing or listening to music. If during this time a housewife is still in an unrelaxed state such as washing the dishes or monitoring children doing their homework, this will have a negative impact on her health.

Evening at 11pm – 1am : The de-toxification process in the liver, and ideally should be done in a deep sleep state.

Early morning 1 – 3am : de-toxification process in the gall, also ideally done in a deep sleep state.

Early morning 3 – 5am : de-toxification in the lungs. Therefore there will sometimes be a severe cough for cough sufferers during this time. Since the de-toxification process had reached the respiratory tract, there is no need to take cough medicine so as not to interfere with toxin removal process.

Morning 5 – 7am : De-toxification in the colon, you should empty your bowel.

Morning 7 – 9am : Absorption of nutrients in the small intestine, you should be having breakfast at this time.

Breakfast should be earlier, before 6:30am , for those who are sick.

Breakfast before 7:30am is very beneficial to those wanting to stay fit. Those who always skip breakfast, they should change their habits, and it is still better to eat breakfast late until 9 -10am rather than no meal at all. Sleeping so late and waking up too late will disrupt the process of removing unnecessary chemicals.

Aside from that, midnight to 4am is the time when the bone marrow produces blood.

Therefore, have a good sleep and don’t sleep late.

OMG...my poor liver.....

Hi RRmummy

thks for sharing this article, "caring for yr Liver". though i have been reading quite a number of medical journals, knowing all facts that what are the factors affecting the health of our organs, yr this reading article is a good reminder to me.

i think my liver is def not in good shape, becos i sleep vey late and wake very late in the morning. Apart fr this, i also take lots of medication which are a necessity. OMG !!!

Also for the food portion,

Also for the food portion, begin with moderate portion for bf, heaviest for lunch, lightest for dinner!

interesting discussion here

Hi all,

Just thought I join in and share my views too.  I think 3boys concerns is … "dont’ take things to the extreme" and "believe 101% of what you read", exercise some discretion.  He quoted a very good example, I can’t image a mummy refusing to nurse her child. But she must have her forbia, not intending to harm her little darling.

RRmummy’s article definitely has truth in it.  Night is the time the body works to repair itself, not just liver.  So sleep early so that your body have a chance to repair. Do not skip breakfast because it is the most important, why?  Because the whole night, your body is working to repair/maintain all the organ, by morning, you need to replenish the lost energy.  Does that sounds sensible?  If we work hard for 8 hours, we will be starving!!  The second reason why breakfast is important, because it kickstart your body system.  Our body is like a car and food is like fuel.  If your car is running on low tank, cannot move lah.  And all pretty mummies pay attention to this – if you want to lose weight and keep slim, breakfast is important!!  Because it will kickstart your body system at a higher metabolic rate.  E.g. instead of running your 2000cc car at 1000cc (no fuel), you run it at 1800cc.  Sorry if someone thinks I talking nosense because I have zero knowledge about cars but just wanted to use it as an example. I don’t even know if a 2000cc car can move at 1000cc.

Anyway, don’t take things to the extreme.  Liver failure could be due to many causes, or a combination of multiple causes.  So just live a healthy lifestyle, and don’t worry about things that may happen anyway. And if it does happen, take it on like a fighter.  You can live a healthy lifestyle like any normal people, if you have a positive mindset.  Rememer this – there’s a will, there’s a way!

the article is true

3Boys, this article is TRUE because it’s supported by many books, just to name one (due to time constrain) which I managed to dig out from my box…

…about the schedule of our body detox process from the article:

"… Maintaining good eating habits and time condition are very important for our body to absorb and get rid of unnecessary chemicals according to ‘schedule.’ :

is supported by 林光常 无毒一身轻:21天改造体质 (ISBN 957-776-415-0) page 107 …

and the part which describes

"…The main causes of liver damage are:

  • Sleeping too late and waking up too late are the main cause…."

is supported by the same book at page 108.

3Boys, it really takes RRMummy’s precious time and thoughtfulness to share with us what she thinks are important… so kindly do your part and do your research first before you claimed any article is not true. Thank you.

Irene66, Hope medical advice received..

Hi Irene66, oh dear, I hope your hubby got some remedy/prevention tips from the doctor after the X-ray. Maybe you could share with us the Doctor’s recommendation.

I think best for him to avoid alcohol too if possible (I have friends who says this may be tough as their job requires them to entertain…)

Wishing your hubs a smooth recovery…

Wow, gotta print this for my hubby!

Thanks for the great article.  I must print and laminate it for my hubby.  He went for an x-ray and has ‘fatty liver’ (something like this) and a very slight part of it has harden.  I am very worried and when I read your article, he fits exactly what was described – he sleeps late, wakes up early, no breakfast …

Thanks for the info, it helps me feel more empowered to help him.

Welcome buds hubs

Hi buds hubs, glad you are one of those whom ‘approves’, being a health and fitness ‘freak’ and all…. Yup, I guess like everything else we read, can note everything with a pinch of salt..

caring for liver

Hmmm… I read through the article and although some

people think that it may not be entirely true. I find that it does offer

great advise on staying healthy.

Being a health & fitness "freak", I must say that I do find some of the advise

offered are very relevant eg: sleeping early, clearing of bowels, choosing the right

types of food etc. and have been practising them on a daily basis.

So, I take it that there is nothing wrong to follow the advise that is offered as long

as it does not go against your own priciples and does not cause harm to your body.

Cheers & Thanks RRMummy for sharing!!

Thanks for the site!

Hi 3boys,

No problem at all!

Thanks for the website!

My hubby has weak liver conditions and he is now (ONLY NOW) going for his immunity jabs against hepatitis. Just took his 2nd jab today (after much persuasion and pushing from my side).

He’s lucky he’s tested negatively for hepatitis since he loves all the clams in the foods that he chooses.

Importance of critically assessing information

RRMummy and winth,

no intention to cause any embarrassment, and I understand you have good intentions in sharing such info. I know this is not a technical forum, so there needs to be leeway in allowing for a diversity of views and opinions, and not having to substantiate every one of them with 3 pages of journal references! However, in this instance, I felt compelled to post.

Not speaking to this post specifically, but in general, there is a lot of myth out there regarding health and illness. The way to evaluate this info is to assess it in the context of normal human physiology and importantly, data that supports the contention. I strongly feel that it is critical for us to impart this ability to critique information to our children, particularly when there is so much misinformation out there.

I understand the overall intent in promoting good health. However, when ‘lack of sleep’ is cited as a leading cause of liver damage, it is factually untrue and opens the window for misinterpretation, particularly for those who may be in desperate straits. I have seen this happen, to the detriment of the patient. The blood flow to the liver occurs 24/7 and does not vary much throughout the day. The detoxification process occurs pretty much around the clock, and is little influenced by sleep. The so-called staged detox as cited in the article is completely untrue and has no basis in medicine.

When trying to understand what we can do to care for our livers, it may do well to understand the major causes of liver damage. One (of many links) here –> http://www.mamashealth.com/liver/lfailure.asp

I have seen for instance, a new mum refusing to feed any bottle milk to a starving new born because of something she read on the internet about how much ‘harm’ it would cause. Baby lost 15% of weight due to dehydration before the dad forcibly removed the baby to much hysteria. These incidences are due to misunderstanding and misinformation, hence I will like to put things straight where I can.

Hi 3Boys, no offence taken but..

Hi 3Boys, no offence taken but care to share why you think it is not true?

Sleeping early and waking up early has been drummed in for the longest time…

I did notice that in my family normally when we have severe cough, we do cough quite alot during the wee hours of the morning.. i used to think it was only because of the chill…

Many older generation (like my daddy-o) always have habit of making sure bowel clearance is early in the morning.. said drilled by grandparents..

During both my hospital stays (after delivery), breakfast was served really early when the sky was still way dark….was it at 6am? Can’t remember..

So I figured there was some truth to it before posting.. do not wan’t to commit a socially irresponsible act here by posting false info…

Looking forward to your comments. TIA

Hi 3boys, No problem at

Hi 3boys,

No problem at all! We do understand that sometimes articles might not hold very scientifically correct information. But I gather that the main point of this article is to keep a healthy lifestyle – sleep early, wake up early, dun skip breakfast, subtly warning us against bad habits like smoking or consuming too much processed foods.

Maybe you can tell us what you know about caring for our livers?

Not true!

Sorry guys, don’t mean to be rude, but most of what’s in this article has no basis whatsoever. Don’t believe everything you receive in the e-mail or read on the internet, I’m sure that’s what you want to teach your children.

oh dear, I am the one like

oh dear, I am the one like this:
“Sleeping too late and waking up too late are the main cause.”

Winth chim ah..

Winth, thanks for the trick.. very chim le..

Teach you a trick to

Teach you a trick to see the status of your liver. It’s 中医学.

With your right palm, close all your fingers + thumb too.

The state of your liver is the area on the palm which is right beside your thumb.

My hubby’s area (which belongs to the liver state) is like it’s excavated. Usually for healthy livers, that area on the palm is usually quite full, without much creases plus it has got nice pink shade.

Same as my hubs..

Hi winth, ya same like my hubs.. weak liver…

When I saw this article this morning, I kept thinking about our dear ‘Night Owl’ and felt I had to share it some how..

You joining the bidding?

Great Stuff you have

Great Stuff you have there!

Loved the part where it’s broken down into different stages and timings of detoxification for the body!

Will be sharing this with hubby. He has a weak liver you know.
