Herb marinated pork belly

your herb marinated pork belly is ready to serve! bon appettit!

today i used australian mini pork belly. it’s not as tender as the 五花肉 i’ve used previously. this is 五花肉. same marinate can be used for this as pork chops.

stuff needed for marinating evoo, garlic and onion spice blend, basil and rosemary, black pepper and baking powder.

this is the amount of herb and spices used… that is a teaspoon… do adjust according to your tastebuds. marinate overnight or for at least 3 hours. salt should only be added just before cooking as it will draw out the moisture from the meat while marinating.

this is after marinating add some salt and its all ready for the pan.

heat up pan. use high fire. make sure that pan is HOT! for pork belly, place the skin side down first. turn the fire down to medium. when u see about 2mm of the skin side turn colour, then flip the pork belly to its side. when u see about 2mm of the down side turn colour, like in this pic, it’s time to flip to cook the other side. please note, you don’t have to keep on turning or checking their doneness. the other side should take about half the time of the first side. for pork chops, when u see the rim of the pork chop turn colour, then it’s ready to flip. cooking time for pork chops will be much lesser, so keep an eye out.

busymom, thank you for trying

busymom, thank you for trying this recipe. 🙂

to answer your question, no, for pork chops, due to it’s thickness, or more like thinness, no need to turn the fire down to medium. reason that i turn the fire to medium for the pork belly is cos i’d need to cook through the thicker meat and yet not burn the surface.

cooking time for pork chops is quite fast. high heat will crisp the surface and yet keep the middle still moist and slightly pink.

Thank you icy_mama. This is a

Thank you icy_mama. This is a great recipe! I have a question though. You mentioned hot pan for cooking the pork belly, and to turn it to medium after the pork belly has been placed. How about pork chop? Do I do the same as well, ie very hot pan for placing the pork chop in, then turn down the fire to medium for cooking?

you're welcome!

i’m so glad you tried this. without you taking this first step, your kids would not have enjoyed it. 🙂

Yummy :)

My children love it ! Thanks for sharing.
