Mark the June Holidays with Flying Colours at Jurong Bird Park

During this June holidays, even if you are not planning to fly off for an overseas holiday with the kids, your family can still take flight – albeit of the feathered kind – for an enjoyable and educational outing right here in Singapore.

Celebrating its 45th anniversary this year, Jurong Bird Park will be hosting a myriad of activities that promises fantastic fun this June. Visitors during the weekends can also look forward to a flock of other fun activities, from token feeding sessions, hands-on arts and crafts, face painting to mascot meet-and-greet sessions.

Here’s our quick guide on how you can make the most of your day-out at Jurong Bird Park.

MORNING

Open daily from 8:30am, Jurong Bird Park is made for early birds! Rise and shine early and head West with your entire brood, starting your morning with breakfast at Jurong Bird Park’s Hawk Café. Indulge in local fare, including this month’s special create-your-own-popiah for $14 (4 servings). You can also purchase Jurong Bird Park’s 45th anniversary cupcakes to munch on when you feel peckish later in the day.

Once fueled up for the morning, make your way to the Pools Amphitheatre for the ‘must-watch’ special edition of the High Flyers Show. Your kids will love the free-flying performances of colourful bird stars and parrots, macaws, hornbills and other avian friends. But the biggest applause should be reserved for Big John the cockatoo when it makes a special appearance and relive his days as one of the original feathered stars of Jurong Bird Park’s first bird shows.

EARLY AFTERNOON

Say “Happy Bird-day” to precious avian chicks that were hatched in 2016 when you embark on a Birthday Baby Trail, and watch how “Bird Nannies” nurse and wean these hatchlings at the Breeding and Research Centre at 11:45am.

Afterwards, get ready your cameras as there will be photo opportunities for your children when bubbly red cardinal, blue macaw and eagle mascots make special appearances at Penguin Coast, located not far from the park entrance at 12:30pm and 2:30pm (only on weekends).

MID-AFTERNOON

Cool down from the noon-day heat at Birdz of Play, a bird-themed playground boasting both wet and dry play zones. During this June holidays, Birdz of Play will also be the venue for many celebratory activities, where your family can indulge in face painting, glitter tattoos and photo time!

Before heading home, do also take time to learn more about Jurong Bird Park’s ‘Home Tweet Home’ project, which aims to bring greater awareness on the conservation of threatened avian species, especially Southeast Asian birds. Admire the display of nest-boxes hand painted by the bird park’s docents and understand why these nest sites are an important resource for many birds to nurture their young.
