PSLE COPs for 2009 and 2010 Secondary 1 Intake
This is a follow-up of the PSLE COPs thread that I started in the forum. I have compiled the official COPs from the MOE for both 2009 and 2010 Secondary 1 intake.
Please note that all figures are for the Express Steam only and for Non-Affiliation Intake. All COPs include HMT bonus points. Those schools with an * behind the COPs means that they only took in their own afflilated pupils from the Primary School for the Seconday 1 intake.
Not sure if the figure for ACS Independent is the IB COP or the O level route. I simply copied from the MOE’s website. I am not very familiar with ACS Independent’s system, so regret to say that I won’t be able to answer anything relating to the COP for ACS Independent. I am just doing my bit to compile a list to make it easier for parents to compare the COP for 2009 and 2010. I seek your understanding in this matter.

2011 COP
Posting by the maid to 3 men and a dog is really helpful. She is a real expert!
Any reason for MOE not publishing the COP?
aggregate problem
i looked into all the schools that are near Jurong West, including places ranged from here to Pioneer or Clementi.but seeing my aggregate score is 208,which is quite low in terms of express, and i cant choose NA.i cant pick ANY of the schools if i’m considering 2011 aggregate COP.i looked into the MOE website but i’m sure i didnt see any information regarding this,or i’m pretty much desperate right now, since the due date to the school selection is just 4 days away.please help!
Recently, while stressing
Recently, while stressing over the high standard of PSLE nowadays, I joked with my husband that if our son falls short of the COP off our ‘target sec sch’ for maybe 1-2 points, maybe we have a good case for appeal if the father is a alumni member of that sec sch Maybe I should get him to join its committee!!
Thank you
Thank you.
Another thread in the forum is updating most of the schools COP. I think with that, I can prepare the 2011 COP list.

Hi AnotherKiasu
Sorry to disappoint you, but I doubt I will be compiling the list for 2011 intake. You can use my 2009/2010 list and start your own for 2011 for your son.
You will not be able to find the complete list anywhere on the MOE website, you have to go to the individual schools website to get the COPs. They are usually out in March/April. Good Luck!

Hi partimemum
Congrats, 221 is quite a good score, but sorry, I am unable to comment on which is a better choice between Holy Innocents and Bowen. I am sure each school would have their own plus factors, so my advice is pay a visit to both schools to get the real feel of things on the ground to see which school gives your son a more comfortable feel and take the cue from there. After all, it is your son’s next 4 years in the school that we are talking about so I think he should have a say, perhaps even the final say where this is concerned.

PSLE COP 20009 and 2010
Thanks so much for sharing.
My son score is 221. Am tempted to go for Holy Innocent instead of Bowen. Any comments on which is the better school in terms of school discipline and culture.
A million thanks in advance.
THanks a lot!
Hi 25hourmaid, Thanks a lot for your advice..from past record, the COP for Pierce, is betw 206-208..so tink will be putting it as 1st choice to try..& appreciate your effort in sharing the the COP list..
Other parents who have comments on Serangoon Garden Sec, Guang Yang, CHong Boon, Yio Chu Kang..will appreciate your comments+advice..Thanks in advance!!

Hi cool_hi
My personal take is that 5 points from the COP is a big risk, but if you really like the school, well can always put that as a first choice, no harm giving it a try at least you know that you have tried.
That said, I would advise that you select your 2nd and 3rd choices with great care.
Sorry, unable to give any comments on those schools you mentioned as I am not familiar with them and would rather not give mis-guided ino.

Hi
Hi SummerRains
Congratulations, 245 is a very good score and Bukit Panjang Govt High is a very good school as far as I know and I am very sure you would have no problem getting in since your score is above their COP.
Why are you worried about the school being strict? I think the word strict can be very subjective to different people.
Are you located in the West? Another good suggestion would be Nan Hua.
Sorry, not very familiar with schools in the West, so cannot really give good suggestions. Would suggest that you go the the main thread and post your questions there. Chances of getting a response is better since I am sure there would be more parents who are more well versed with schools in the West as compared to me.
Good luck in your choices.

Hi Serangoon
Appeal is possible, but can be very stressful but before you proceed to appeal, I would suggest that you think carefully on what basis would your appeal be based on? Remember, there are also a lot of other people who are thinking of appeal, so your reason of wanting to appeal must be one above the rest.
Principals will not buy reasons like because my child likes your school very much as good reasons.
Before you appeal, you must make sure that your child HAS SOMETHING to offer to the school that you are appealing to, eg good CCA records/awards that so happen to be the niche area of the school, leadership qualities etc. You have to call up the school that you intend to appeal to find out what they are looking for, their strengths etc before you make and appeal.
Good luck.

hi,urgently need advice/comments on Serangoon garden Sec, Guang Yang, CHong Boon & Yio CHu Kang Sec..are these schools conducive? & with aggregate of 203, is it advisable to put Pierce Sec COP 208 as 1st choice? Thanks in advance!!

Hello,
I may not be a parent, but I do have a question.
I scored 245 for PSLE this year, and I’m really confused on what school to go to. I already submitted my first choice as Bukit Panjang Govt. High. But I’m a little scared that it’s really really strict there. Are there any suggestions on what school to go to?

Hi Serangoon
The COP of every school fluctuates every year depending on the number of students applying to get into the school that year and therefore it is not fixed. Besides, nobody knows whether the COP will go up or go down, we will only know after the Posting Results are released on 22 December.
That said, with a score of 242, I think your daughter stands a good chance of getting into Crescent Girls, but make sure that your second choice is a a safe and secure choice, within the reach of her T-score.

Agree with kidsplay that is it unrealistic to try to appeal for a school with 221 as COP.

My advice is not to try. 7 points is a bit unrealistic and too risky. Don’t waste your choices. Go for somewhere more realistic. Generally, my take is 2 points off, at most. Hope that helps.

Hi,You can try applying to
Hi,
You can try applying to AMK Sec. Although last year aggregate was 227. AMK sec used to be ranked 18th and was the best non-autonomous, government school in singapore. I graduated from AMK Sec with an value added score of L1R5 10. Alot of my peers could get into top 5 jcs as well. My year, the average L1R5 was 13.8, which is considered good for a neighbourhood school. AMKSS was ranked band 4 in this year ranking, which is after Anderson Sec in AMK area.

Hi CVPSMASH
I think your chances of getting into Anderson is quite high considering that they always been in the region of 245 to 248. It’s been like that for years. No quarantee though, but not likely for the COP of Anderson to drop that far from 245, so I think you stand a very good chance in getting. Good luck.

School to Choose
Hi
I think there are several schools in the North East area u can consider.
About the best school in North east area is Nan Chiau. It takes in students with COP of around 231 and turns them into top scorers, with the school moving from band 9 just 5 yrs ago to band 1 this yr. The students there are generally quite motivated and the teachers are very committed. Arising from the Band 1 status and impending SAP status, the competition for Nan Chiau may be high, so the COP may go up.
Having said that, since u have 6 choices, no harm allocating 1 slot for Nan Chiau.
The other better schools in NE would be Xin Min and Zhonghua, with COP around 240 and 236. But these are band 2 schools even though they take in students with better t-scores tha Nan Chiau.
Those in the 220plus range would be CHIJ SJC near your house and Compassvale Sec (just below 220). There is also Pei Hua (near Fernvale) which i think is Band 8 school with COP 200 plus. It is a very new school and seems to be making good progress.
U can also consider AMK Sec, Mayflower Sec, Yishun Town Sec.
U may want to allocate top 2 slots to schools u really want your daughter to get in but somewhat out of reach, slot 3 and 4 to those which she has realistic chance of getting in, and slot 5 and 6 to those which she can comfortably qualify. I think this would be a balanced approach.
which school to choose
Hi there, Pls. advise recommended school . My daughter got 228 and we live in Anchorvale/sengkang. She prefers mixed session and CCA with english drama. Me as a mom prefers school whose teacher motivates students instead of ‘being fierce. Thanks so much.

Hi tsp_1
Sorry for the late response. Just saw your message. You should have posted your question in the PSLE 2010 results thread in the main forum as I was there the whole evening.
Anyway, with 225, your choices are a bit limited, but I would suggest the following schools, though not necessary in the following order, but I heard that Bowen is not bad :
Bowen 221
Holy Innocents 219
CHIJ St Joseph’s 226
Ang Mo Kio 227
Geylang Methodist 222
Mayflower 222

Like I have been saying, the first column is for 2009 Sec 1s, while the second column is for 2010 Sec 1s (meaning people like you who are in Sec 1 this year). Meaning, the second column is what would be reflected in the PSLE booklet for this year’s P6 students taking the PSLE. Means the COPs are already out on the MOE website, but just that the booklet is not out for the students yet. I have taken the effort to look through the entire MOE and cut and pasted all the COPs for all the schools. What is it that is confusing?

Hi Siak As explained by
Hi Siak
As explained by Stressy, COP means Cut off Point. When the PSLE results are released in November every year, every child is given a T-score. This T-score is then used to select a Secondary School for the child. COP differs from school to school and yes, in other words, the higher the T-score of the child, the better his/her chance of getting into a school of his/her choice.
After the students are
After the students are allowed to choose schools after the results are released, the COPs have remained fairly stable. I still remember the fateful year when COP for RGS is 252!!!.
