Re: Comparing Tuition Centres

Hi parents, when choosing a session with the popular tuition how do you find out which teachers are really good. After a few bad experiences, i understand that as much as the brand of the tuition center, the teacher also matters. Need your input. I am both a parent and a tuition centre principal, s...

Re: Comparing Tuition Centres

does those tutor matching services give tutors a way to pitch themself? so you can describe your qualifications to parents? or it's just based on the fee preference? Basically they have all my info, whether I was ex-MOE teacher, etc. I don't think they have a pitch per se. I think they probably mat...

Re: Comparing Tuition Centres

Anyone tried tutor matching service before? Can share experience of using such service? I used them when I did private one-to-one tuition in the past. They were good at a certain fee quote, back in 2004 when I was quoting $40 an hour (as an ex-MOE teacher). The last two years (2018-2019), when my f...

I know this is like a looooong time ago, but I would love to get some feedback as well from parents (and I am VERY open to the feedback!). Disclaimer: fr...

Re: Setting up of tuition centre

I would love to see replies to jkids too!

On a separate note - why would a tuition center spinning off 50% profit a year be letting go (saw them on businesses for sale)? It is good money for the owners!

Re: Horror Stories - "Bad" Students/Parents

We once had a student who missed an entire year of school and had a lot of learning difficulties, but the parents did not tell us until after we accepted the student in. A month of struggling and difficulties in understanding basic concepts later, we spoke to the parents again and then we found out...

We already faced issues in school when students are confused because of differing methods taught by two different teachers. It is going to be the same for tutors. Suggest you stick to one. Some children may need more time to improve.

That was also how I got my kids interested in Science. Of course, it helps (perhaps) that my kids are all boys...

Re: All About Finding & Evaluating Tutors

no offence to tutors, but as parents who rely on tutors to provide backup for kids, we need to assess tutors with great care. those who are dishonest, unprofessional or simply cannot teach, they should be sacked. Why should we add the qualifier "no offence to tutors"? Even if we are offended, so? T...
