Re: Which laptop for JC use

There is road shows in JC / Poly and Us that will offer laptops at student prices. Keep a lookout for it.

Re: Is tuition absolutely needed from Sec 1?

I would say cut your DD some slack. Observe to see how well she can manage. Talk to her and let her know you are letting her manage her Chinese for now, so she has more time to do things she likes, but if she can't keep up, then you will review the need to get her extra help.

Re: Focus on a love for learning, not academic results: MOE

I don't think one can "focus" on a "love" for learning, more like identify and nurture the passion + encouragement for the child to bloom; and learning encompasses all things - academics and non-academic interests. I take the view that if a child finds a non-academic passion and is able to do well i...

Re: Focus on a love for learning, not academic results: MOE

This should be taken up with the school. We already did at the PTM last Friday! That's how we found out about the difference (8 lab classes vs the alternative weeks). My hubby asked what the school was going to do about "the difference" but the HOD Science teacher said there are no plans yet. "...T...

Re: Focus on a love for learning, not academic results: MOE

E.g. Less resources for NA girls taking O-levels Combined Chemistry Paper 5 this year - they had NO lab classes for 4 years & only 8 lessons planned for this year (teacher already cancelled first lesson last week). Compare this with the Express girls, practical classes every alternate weeks leading...

Don't think it is anything sad, maybe a little disappointing to those involved, but it could well be a blessing in disguise, too. Who knows?

Re: Focus on a love for learning, not academic results: MOE

We also want to find time for him to watch TV, play ipad and more importantly, rot. Why would you be the one finding time for him to watch TV, play ipad, etc. ? Let your child find his own time - let him learn the gives and takes on the things he wants to do. He will be more efficient if he manages...

Re: Focus on a love for learning, not academic results: MOE

Personally, I would not ask my child to quit her CCA if she doesn't make it to the school team. In the academic race, what could be worst than being stopped from doing something you like besides studying? For all you know, this the the one sport that will help to balance the stress and demands of th...

Re: RI’s ‘O’ level scores: only one in 10 qualified for JC.

I know of a mainstreamer who DSA via academics to RGS and was offered CO. I also know of an invited sport applicant who didn't make it through GAT for RGS but was eventually successful in her DSA Sports to NYGH. This is one of those who was invited to the tea-session, aka, talent spotted before hand...
