Re: Generation who refuse to grow up

Singapore may well have a good number of such young people. I personally know of 2 among my relatives. One of them is female and already 40 years old. Unemployed, she locks herself up in her room all day, watches movies on Youtube or shop online, gets served food and taken care of by the domestic he...

Re: Flag Day - what's your style?

Going out with a tin can be a traumatic and humbling experience. I have had my fair share of rejection and even insults when I was a student participant on flag days. So when I encounter youngsters doing their bit, I will first ask them what charity or cause they are raising money for. Some are quit...

Re: Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) [*IP]

:goodpost: Thank you, breezy, for sharing your journey, especially with your elder son. It is food for thought for parents who hope their children can grow from primary school math & science geeks into truly educated and thinking young adults. Hi all, my experience to share: Both my sons are in ACSI...

Re: We need to guard against elitism: ESM Goh

"Compassionate Meritocracy" is already oxymoronic. It is like having a smokeless barbeque. Wow, good one. :salute: I don't see it as an oxymoron at all. It's like saying 'Safe Travels' is an oxymoron. Once one embarks on travel, one assumes a certain amount of risk. But it does not mean travel cann...

Re: branded and expensive mean more superior

My own practice is to purchase something at about the 50-75th percentile of the price range if I want quality. Beyond that I might end up paying for the manufacturer's excessive marketing budget. Years ago I would look for the cheapest stuff but I have since learnt my lesson.

Re: any good old school chinese restaurants to recommend?

Guan Hin (http://www.soshiok.com/article/14622) is one of my family's old favs. Teochew food in an aircon restaurant under a HDB block in Bendemeer. Pretty near Lai Wah. Old school food and old school decor.
