Hi Sun_2010 thanks for your advice, At this point of time I need counselling n medication to help me to sort things out. I am in a confused state of mind, very pessimistic n very emotional. But I believe I will recover, slowly but surely.

Re: Child leaving for overseas studies, how do you cope?

Hi ammonite, thank you for yr suggestion. Perhaps I should write down my fears n how to overcome them. Makes it easier rather than keep going through them in my mind. The University does have a Spore society where current students give advice to the newbies to help them settle down. My son told me t...

Re: Child leaving for overseas studies, how do you cope?

Hi janet88, dun worry about the NS for your son. I too was worried but after accompanying him to Tekong we actually had a glimpse as to what sort of life they will have during the BMT. Re: Child leaving for overseas studies, how do you cope?

Hi sleepy, I did think of staying back a while with my son till things settle down but with my present emotional condition, I feel it will be a burden to my son instead. My husband has requested my son to come back every summer holidays so hopefully things will be easier for me.

Re: Child leaving for overseas studies, how do you cope?

I don't know if it's the depression and panic attacks that made me so clingy. I was 'normal' prior to this month, attending talks on overseas education, going to British Council to collect info, comparing each University with my husband n son etc. I don't understand what is happening to me. I though...

Re: Child leaving for overseas studies, how do you cope?

Hi Simkhoo, my husband is ok with my son going overseas to study. He feels it's unfair to tie him down bec It's his future n passion. He said he too will miss the daily jogs, the games they play but it will be selfish if I insisit that my son takes up any course locally so that I can see him everyda...

Re: Child leaving for overseas studies, how do you cope?

I was recently diagnosed with depression over this and am under medication. Health wise, I may not be suitable to live overseas alone with my son. The mere thoughts of him not around seems overwhelming to me. It's causing panic attacks.
