Re: All About Universities

The US Tier 1 universities will be overweight (relative to the population) Asian students (could be 25%+ of the cohort at some schools), so school life may not be so bad. It will also be easier to fit in if attending school in some of the larger coastal areas. They are American-born Asians. If you ...

Re: All About Universities

During my time (late 1990s, early 2000s), the EDB/Sembcorp and PSC, and later on, A*STAR push to the US over the UK or other countries, was very strong. For decades, PSC had direct connections with Oxbridge Colleges and could place selected scholars there - this practice has since stopped. I would h...

Re: ME TIME!

Just make sure the BTU for the compressor can support 4 units comfortably......shouldn't be an issue really.

I dislike aircon replacement works - it's pretty major and can be disruptive.

If you service the aircons regularly, they do last a long time.

Re: ME TIME!

Hi Mrs Kiasu If you want to have 4 compressors - do note that each compressor does emit quite a bit of heat. It also depends on your space and configuration - do you have spaces for 4 separate compressors? In terms of capital costs, for the aircons alone (excluding installation), 4 individual units ...

Re: All About Universities

Given the astronomical costs of studying in the US, if you are on a scholarship, you really get your bond's worth studying in the US ahhahahahaha.

Re: All About Universities

I would say though, most courses in the US, will take 4 years of study. It is not easy to get exemptions or acceleration even with APs and A levels or IBs. They wlll simply require you to take more advanced modules, as the number of credits needed for graduation typically do not change. Well, the un...

Re: All About Universities

[quote=doodbug post_id=2064858 time=1650440036 user_id=13 It's a very different experience to live life away from home and without your parents advocating for you or supporting your physical needs. Learning to find accommodattion, deal with landlords (for some of us), budgeeting, laundry, meals, tr...

Re: All About Universities

But the wonderful experience as described, is not free! It comes with a hefty price. To support two kids overseas need to write off a few hundred thousands. I am ok for my children to go overseas for studies but they have to get a scholarship. If can get into NTU or NUS or SUTD, then just stu...

Re: All About Universities

Wow ChiefKiasu, you were probably at UIUC slightly before the time when the flood of Singaporeans started going there - during my time, EDB and all were sponsoring many scholars there (and steering them away from the UK). It's nice to see a diversity of backgrounds among KSP forummers :) I did my un...

Re: All About Universities

While NUS Computing is very difficult to get into, there are a lot more computing places available in NTU, SMU and SUTD. Bear in mind also that it is hard to maintain a high CAP in NUS Computing. There are kids who score perfect RP who get in, but who find they have to grind day and night just to s...
