SINGAPORE — With Singapore’s blood banks closely watching the screening of donors during the coronavirus outbreak, the authorities are appealing for healthy donors to give blood because stocks have dipped to low or critical levels.

In response to TODAY’s enquiries on Friday (Feb 14), the Health Sciences Authority (HSA), which manages Singapore’s blood banks, said: “Our blood stocks are currently trending downwards. We, therefore, strongly urge donors who are healthy and eligible to step forward as our patients really need your support during this challenging period.”

Case #64.
A 50yo male with no other details. Could he be some big shots?

Even if ambulance were to pick up someone who was already in coma from the street, since the age is known, at least provide more details

At times, the report on the same news differs between CNA and ST.

That could be because of when they got the info and when they published. CNA can republish more frequently, and it takes less time from getting the info to publishing, while ST only publishes once a day, and they probably have a deadline sometime at night for the morning newspaper. They may interview different people and have different sources too, apart from the main official ones.

COVID-19 belongs to betacoronavirus, same sub-family as SARS whereas H1N1 belongs to alphainfluenzavirus sub-family. The symptoms sensitivity, incubation, case fatality, etc are all different.

Don't know why a 4G minister says its more similar to H1N1?

It’s a kind disaster in the making!

Reminds me of Hello Kitty KS Singaporeans queue overnite. When crowd are in place, community spreads is possible. I’m just saying.

He’s not referring to the virus itself, nor its scientific classification.

I agree it’s more similar to H1N1 because the symptoms are very mild and majority of the cases in SG have recovered. Only the elderly or those with other health complications are still in ICU. Even the 2-year-old has recovered and been discharged.

SG’s ICU system right now is able to cope. All those deaths you read about in China are probably due to their healthcare system being extremely heavily overloaded. They have to queue hours in the cold just to get into the hospital. So the deaths are not because the virus is particularly fatal like SARS. It’s not.
