When DW asks 'Do I look fat in this dress' ......

Postby markfch » Sat May 22, 2010 6:30 pm

I've got a question that puzzles me for a long time. When DW asks 'Do I look fat in this dress?'. How does she expect me to reply?

a) Be honest and tell her the truth and be slammed for having low EQ? :x

b) Be clever and lie and be slammed for dishonesty? :|

c) It's not you dear, it's the dress.

d) Huh? What did you say? :? (but how many times can we use this line?)

Can some wise folks enlighten me pls?

For me, below 10 – I will use (C).

Above 10 – (a) but definitely will not be slammed for having low EQ because without doubt my EQ is higher than my kiddo. We are the leaders and we will lead whether they like it or not. I’m very frank with my son. He hates asking for my opinions but eventually he will asks because he still needs opinions and approval. I dislike having my son looking ‘unpleasant’.If he puts on weight I will tell him. It’s up to him to accept because I feel that kids need to feel ugly to appreciate beauty. It’s useless to nag all the time. Let their friends put them down. They will learn lor.

for most women, lie. for my case, when i ask sashimi (DH), i expect the truth. anyway, i know he'll tell me the truth, especially when we have to dress up nicely for some special occasion. it'll hurt his eyes too much to enjoy the occasion if he lied.

I am very lucky in this aspect as my DW since young till now has alway been slim. Of course beside the time she was carrying our DS.

So, I have never been asked this sort of questions

My husband's reply will be,"I am so lucky. I get to enjoy a fat & skinny woman."

When I grumble about how my ass seems bigger or my waist seems to have more fats, he'll just pinch & declare,"I LIKE!"

my dh looked at the poll and said that the answers to the poll is already bias; it already stated that lying is the correct one cos you stated 'be clever and lie'. choosing other options means that you are not clever. so you probably already know the answer to your question, right?

Spot on, jedamum dh. I didn't even notice that (the implicit implication) until you mention :slapshead: . It's a good thing people like me are not smart enough to be working in operational research. Otherwise the results will be full of prejudice

I don't ask such a question at all, it's a lose-lose question even for the very skinny ones. A person should know well enough if they have excess fats or not and even do not have, some women perpectually think they are fat because they are not in right proportion. So it is silly to get people to endorse it and put the people in a spot.

Better to ask, "Does this dress suit me?"
The answer will be " Yes very well" or
"No, why don't you try something else?"

So instead of trying to be creative in your answer, perhaps you should guide your dw to change the way the question is being asked.

But ksi, what happens if dw then asks why this dress doesn't suit her? Then I'm in a spot again :clubmyself:

Even though your dw is slim, you may still not be safe. Imagine if one day while shopping with your dw and she ask you whether she's as good looking as the attractive gal just in front of you. Then how? :nailbite:

The reason I can think of this scenario is that long time ago, this thing happened to me :xedfingers:
