Joan Bowen - The Special Culinary Centre

Postby BigDevil » Fri Jul 09, 2010 4:25 pm

Anyone heard of this? I caught the tail end of the feature done by 938live.

Apparently the cafe is opened by the parents of Joan Bowen - a special needs child, and the idea is to train her with necessary life skills. They now employ and train other special needs teenagers too.

As taken from its blog http://joanbowen.blogspot.com/ :

Joan Bowen aims to empower youths and children with special needs by training them with a range of skills that will enable them to make their own mark and contribute as an active member of the larger community in Singapore and beyond. Joan Bowen conducts these endeavors without discrimination and seeks to bring out the best in every candidate through its programme with a spirit of friendship, partnership and love.

Thought they are doing a good thing and decided to share it with folks here.

We had lunch there on Sunday but not at the usual place. They are also inside of St Andrew's Village in Potong Pasir, behind Church of Ascension. Food was great and it was nice to see the kids running the outlet (with help) well. No aircon. But nice view of the school pool and the large open field beyond that. Please go and support!
