http://www.singstat.gov.sg/stats/themes ... cators.pdf

According to the statistics, population in 1990 was 3m, 2000 was 4m, in 2009 was 5m. Resident population increased by 33% from 1990-2000, 25% from 2000-2009. However, suicide rate did not.

What we're seeing is like a correction, as the financial people would put it. The suicide rate per 100,000 has actually fallen if you use a longer baseline. Bad, bad reporting.

Agreed, although no. of cases have increased, pop'n also increased, so best way to measure suicide rate is to measure the no. of ppl who have committed suicide relative to the population and compare...

ya.... just like the rate of people getting babies in Singpore. If you compare it the way we just did for this case, it'd become compulsory for people to have babies when they're married! :rotflmao:
