Despite all the times that it was not lupus on House MD, sometimes it really is. Lady Gaga recently disclosed that she has been tested for the disease, and she expects to be diagnosed with it. The disease is thought to have a genetic component, and family members of hers have it. It is a manageable chronic illness, and though it is far from the worst you are able to come down with, you do want to stay on top of it. Lupus in an autoimmune disease, and can be deadly.

Though lupus is severe, it isn't the worst of auto-immune diseases. It can be managed, but there's a chance it could be deadly. Lupus has a five-year survival rate of about 95 percent and a 20-year survival rate of just less than 80 percent. Treatment is usually immune-suppressants. What is Lupus?

Lupus, along with the other auto-immune diseases, is a disease affecting the immune system. What happens is a glitch within the immune system causes the antibodies that are normally produced by the body to fight off germs to forget the main difference between germs and the normal cells of the body. Then the antibodies attack the wrong cells, causing normally common things like fevers and pain or swelling in joints. The unique red rash sufferers get on their faces is how the disease was named. The rash was described in the Middle Ages as being wolf like, and lupus literally means wolf in Latin.
