Do you love Singapore?

Postby daisyt » Fri Aug 06, 2010 10:08 am

Of course, the usual complains about education system, traffic, public transport, their so called "well planned" policies but let's admit, running a country is not easy.

I was talking to a foreign worker during one of the NDP reharsel. He commented about how inconsistent our marching was. In his country, how nice and how nice parade, the marching, the fireworks but, too bad, they cannot see it on the street like we do, because they are too big. I answered him, "Of course, what your country NOT lack of, is men. Over here, our soldiers are not full time on this parade and marching thing." Well ... he agreed with my statement.

Another incident, I was talking to a taxi driver. He was from Hong Kong, migrated to Singapore 10 years ago. Basically in the whole journey, he was complaining how bad Singapore was and he was thinking to leave Singapore one day to another country. He complained about the high living standard, the education system, the stress level here .... I did not speak much to him, merely listened. However in my heart, I was thinking, if this is not the place you could call home, just pack and go lor.

This year theme was "Live our dreams, fly our flags" and there are more flags hanging around compare to the past. Looking at these flags, I ask myself this question "Do I love Singapore?" My answer is "Yes, just as I love my family because this is my home."

Once, I asked my dd (wanting to test her out), what if we decided to migrate to other country. Her answer is straight NO and she would try all her best to beg us and persuade us not to. Her passion towards the country is always so strong, her love for the security, the good food and the Singapore la culture.

So, do you and your children love Singapore? :D

Yes I love Singapore.

I studied, worked and lived in HK for almost 12 years. But this is my home. I married a Singaporean man and have us a Singaporean baby. We proudly fly the flag in our home and our car (this year) during National Day.

This is a country where I, as a woman, can feel safe walking down the streets at 4am (well most streets anyways). I'm not naive, I know safety is relative and there are some danger hotspots in Singapore, like most countries, but for the most part, it's safer than most of the places I have been. And I have been to many places. I was a flight attendent.

Now, I look forward to bringing up DD in our country, our home

The chorus of this song sums up my feelings

This is my country, this is my flag,
This is my future, this is my life,
This is my family, these are my friends,
We are Singapore, Singaporeans !

Being a migrant from an early age, having done NS and all, I do say I have a strong affinity for the country and proud to call it my home.

So yes, I do love Singapore....

.....it's Singaporeans I can't stand  (just kidding)

Happy National Day!

I don't know whether I love my country. But I do know that there's this heart thumping feeling I have everytime S'pore does something well internationally. Hey, I even feel proud that our very own Fandi is going to Europe to be a professional football coach :D .

Nevertheless, I still prefer the good old days (they are always good isn't it?) where life was slower & things were simpler (very old fashioned hor).
