How much did your kid's kindy graduation concert costs?

Postby markfch » Thu Dec 16, 2010 2:54 pm

After reading the article below, I realised that the $65 I paid for my ds's graduation concert is really economical.

http://edvantage.com.sg/edvantage/featu ... ncert.html

Some parents are willing to fork up to $270 to attend a concert - no, not to see Jay Chou, but to watch their preschool kids perform onstage. It is all part of elaborate graduation performances that many preschools in Singapore stage these days.

According to Wanbao, parents are made to buy outfits for their kids, as well as admission tickets. And if you factor in the cost of a video of the taped performance, the whole shebang can set parents back $100 to $300 in total.

For preschool Pat's Schoolhouse, tickets for the graduation concerts are sold at $50 each, while costumes cost around $40 to $50.

Parents can also purchase a graduation package at $120, which includes a calendar, video recording and a photo.

So, calculating the cost of two tickets, one outfit and the package, parents can easily spend up to $270, or more.

This amount is more than some concert tickets by popular regional acts like Jay Chou, where the most expensive tickets for his concert in July this year went for $228.

There was a recent thread where one parent paid $150 in total for his kid's concert.

haiz... seems like another way cc are ripping off parents. why does a VCD of the production cost $30 to produce anyhow?!

It's not even just one graduation concert right?

for many cc, it's year end concert. so no matter what level, even N1 gotta participate. so could be 4 years of paying this kind of ticket fees!

but lots of ppl say it's worth it to see their kids perform on stage... so...

Kindy has concert every year...the kids participate from Pre-nursery to K2. There was a year when the clothes can be 'recycled' for casual wear.
If school has its own auditorium, then parents save on paying for use of venue.

I liked my kids' kindergarten but the concert was a costly affair. I see no need for a concert of such scale. Sometimes I think it is simply a reflection of the principal's ego.

In ds's kindy, the most expensive tickets were snapped up within a couple of hrs of being on sales. Heard that the queue to buy the best tickets started forming at 6:30am. :faint:

By 8 something am, already received sms that all the best seats are being taken. I'm quite sure that even if kindy doubles the ticket price the sales will still be as hot.

The kindy was also trying to make fast bucks by selling the front row seats at $10...best part was, they were sold VERY fast. I support the children's efforts to practice for the year-end concert but not the way the management commercialized it.
On the day of the concert, they had 8R pictures of individual kids pasted in the lobby. Each of these cost $10...the staff (from the studio) played on the parents' emotions by asking whether they want to buy pictures of their children. Buying all means an extra $30 per parent.
So if you add in the cost of the concert, it's not just $60 for costumes/props, but also $30 for 8R photos, $20 for lousy production DVD, $10/seat for sibling (only newborn and toddlers get to sit for free on parents' laps)

front row seats at $10 already considered cheap right? I heard most seats start at $30, regardless of where you sit.

for instance, Marfch's concert sounds like it would cost more than $10 for the snapped up front row seats...

scary, how the pat's schoolhouse one cost the parent $500 in all...
