is this reasonable??
The bigger qn is 'what would happen to you if you miss the deadline?'
If nothing big would really happen, then just act blur and submit later lor.
Anyway tell your boss you took MC cos you're sick. If you persist to work when sick, later spread the germs to your colleagues and then they carry your germs and indirectly spread to their children at home, then your colleagues will surely you. Keke.

if your job function and you are expected to be contactable outside of office hours, and you are provided the tools for it (eg laptop, mobile phone paid by company for both equipment and usage charges) then it is not unreasonable
else, just tell him you have been on MC plus the CNY. nobody wants to be sick during the CNY. just click the email reply and let him know
no need to sound angry in the email reply. just sound normal without feeling is best

I disagree. I try my best NOT to be connected to the office.fussyMummy wrote:Arrows here and there, even around....KSP wrote:that's why we always need to be connected to office email thru iphone, blackberry or android..... otherwise we don't even know if someone shoot an arrow from behind when we are away.....
I have refused to carry an office lap top. Even if your job does not require you to be contactable 24/7, the very fact that you carry an office laptop, handphone etc creates an expectation that you will be at the organisation's (or should I say boss') beck and call.
I reach the office at 0730 hrs and leave just before 2000 hrs on average. Once in a while I drop by the office for an hour or so on a Sat. That is a fair contribution, I think.

Urh? Isn't 6/2/11 on a Sunday?KoalaMummy wrote:My boss wants me to submit my report to him by 6/2/11. i was on MC on 1-2Feb, 3-4 is CNY, 5-6 is weekend (my off days). i was back to work today and saw his email. Is this reasonable?? :x
Is your boss an ang mo dunno about CNY holidays?
Or "lau hua yen" see the calendar wrongly?
Surely no boss would put a deadline on a Sunday?
Anyway since you did not see his email until today (7th Feb), just reply his email to explain you were on MC only saw his email today and will send the report to him soonest possible!
I think that is the best that you can do...

Erh...I would think that if you can set a date that your boss will receive the report is more concrete.DesertWind wrote: just reply his email to explain you were on MC only saw his email today and will send the report to him soonest possible!

Actually, it is not that difficult to determine what kind of boss you have.
If the business is dependent on that report, then your boss is being reasonable, and you should appreciate him as a boss.
If your boss's promotion is dependent on that report, then he is being human, and your support will be very much appreciated by him.
If the report is test your commitment, dedication or competency to your boss, then he is being pragmatic, and your performance will earn you his confidence in you.
Otherwise, if it is just to show that he has the authority to spoil the holidays for you, then he is just being a jerk. Not worth bothering about such bosses

Re: is this reasonable??
seeing that your mc was for the 2 days just before cny, your boss might think you aint genuinely sick and trying to pull a fast one on him thus the email.KoalaMummy wrote:My boss wants me to submit my report to him by 6/2/11. i was on MC on 1-2Feb, 3-4 is CNY, 5-6 is weekend (my off days). i was back to work today and saw his email. by now, i guess things should have been sorted out between both of you.
cheers.
Re: is this reasonable??
Is this the first time something like that happen? Or is this a recurring habit? Does he do this to others as well? Just trying to ascertain his "pattern". Some bosses are workaholics n expect their staff to do the same. If he is one, then no surprises that he has set a dateline on Sunday. Hope he is not out to make life difficult for youKoalaMummy wrote:My boss wants me to submit my report to him by 6/2/11. i was on MC on 1-2Feb, 3-4 is CNY, 5-6 is weekend (my off days). i was back to work today and saw his email. Yes, if one accept company issued communication tools (laptops, mobile phones), then one is indirectly agreeing to being contactable 24/7. Company paid mobile and internet connections also counted. No free lunch lor

Re: is this reasonable??
I submitted the report to him yesterday (8/2). I know that he needs it for his presentation next week. But I just felt he was being unreasonable to set the deadline on a SUNDAY and just after CNY (BTW, he's a local chinese.)
