How much would you give to:

1) Relatives
2) Friends
3) Colleagues

say if the venue is a five star hotel.

I normally check out the prices per table at the hotel online. There are of course many packages so I'd take the one that's mid-way. If you know the person well enough, should be able to guess which package they'd go for. Colleagues, if I am not working closely to them or not buddy-buddy kind then I'd just round up the amount and that's it. Friends, close ones, I'd add on 30% or so to the amount. Relatives, close ones, same as friends. The seldom see kind I'd just add another 10% or so.

1) Relatives - At least $150
2) Friends - Normal friend will be $120, better friend $160-200??
3) Colleagues - Should be $128?

It is quite subjective...

Depends on hotel and how close is the relationship.

But at least $100 for 5 star. Certain hotels will give at least $120 (like Shangri-La & Fullerton). I like to give amount like $138 or $168 for closer friends and probably up to $200 for close relatives.

Do you attend the wedding celebration as long as you receive the invitation? Even if it's an acquaintance (colleague / friend)

Yes, why not? Unless really cannot make it or last minute became sick. Colleagues and friends sure to make an effort to go. Unless you mean really those "acquaintances" as in not close but then why would they invite you if not close?

Precisely! I attended one with only 3 of us sharing a table. Imagine all the excess food and one untouch dish Hai Song.

I would give at least $120 for 5 Star hotel. If it's Best Friend, $150.

My sis recieved one from an acquaintance, as in only speak a few words, don't even think about her type of friend. She was shocked as to why she was invited because really like plain water friendship.

I wonder is it because during negotiation between the parents (the guy's and gal's) she asked for too many tables, so had to invite. Or she was inviting my sis's friend and thought not nice not to invite my sis.

Tsk, tsk, tsk.
See, its such a hassle going for a chinese wedding.
That's why i did not celebrate mine.

I know some people will feel obliged to go, and will have a headache on what amount to give.
So to save everyone the trouble, i skipped it!

Anyway back to the topic.
Close relatives - $200
Close friends - $200
Normal friends - $ 150
Aquaintence - give excuse and say can't go
