Toddler born in S’pore in high-profile adoption tussle

Postby carebear » Tue Jul 05, 2011 10:52 am

This is so heartbreaking.
When I read the news and saw the video, I actually cried.

I always thought that if one parent is Singporean, the child is automatically Singaporean if he is born in Singapore.

The child must be so traumatised...suddenly separated from a family he has been living with since he was a baby.... I can feel how lost he must be feeling now...geeezzzz..... Is it not the responsibilities of adults not to create such trauma for children just because of a few paper regulations? *sigh*

in most other countries the child would have been a citizen and child protection services would have been called in and adoption done....the newspaper says the child is born out of wedlock notwithstanding

It was reported he is stateless.
Then how did he remain in Singapore for so long.
If he is born out of wedlock, but if his father's name is in his BC, then he should be a Singaporean, unless the father refused to recognize him?

based on the foster arrangement, ICA can allow long term pass for the child to remain in Singapore

even if the biological father refuses to recognise him, the state should recignise him

hello, minister in charge of population on leave or what ?

Actually what I understand from my friend is at the point of BC, they have to get the father to take a vow, then all his details can be poured into his BC. Now if that is not done, I wonder if his BC is following all mother's details? but one thing for sure his "place of birth" would be "Singapore". The only thing I am not sure is if follow mum's details, he may not automatically be assumed a "singaporean" even if place of birth is "Singapore".....but why "stateless"?
