"SINGAPORE : The two public transport operators, SBS Transit and SMRT, have submitted applications to the Public Transport Council (PTC) seeking bus and rail fare adjustments.
Both cited cost pressures despite increased efforts to lower costs and increase productivity.
It said the cost pressures were mainly from escalating energy and manpower costs...."

If bus fare increases also mean better wages for productive bus drivers, then I think the increase can be justified.

BUT I recently witnessed three relatively vacant SBS 241 within 10 mins along the same stretch of road (JW St 92) on a Sat late afternoon.

The Govt shld get the bus companies to look into increasing their productivity first. Just like when the Govt announced increase in FWL, citing service industries shld increase productivity to reduce reliance on FW.

This is the consequence of privatizing public services, including utilities. Shareholders' gains more important sia..

I have waited for more than 20 min during peak hour for bus 106 at Clementi MRT station. I am not surprised for the fare HIKE but just curse and swear !
