my most unforgettable news story

Postby LOLMum » Thu Jul 28, 2011 11:07 pm

i can still remember clearly the falling man from the tower of the world trade centre during the 911 attacks in nyc. he was one of those who chose to jump rather than die from the fire and smoke. sometimes, the image of him falling in slow motion will flash across my mind. some things do stay in the memory forever, popping up once in a while to remind oneself.

I remember watching in horror as the second plane flew into the second tower, and later when the buildings collapsed. I was half a world away, but I felt the pain and shock as if I had been there. Like you, I'll never forget those images.

I was sleeping when suddenly hubby woke me up to watch something. He said "wake up, watch this on TV now. Is this real or its a show? But this is CNN channel, cannot be movie right?" And yes, to my horror, it was real. In fact hubby was on cnn channel and watched the live, real time moment. He could not believe it and woke me up.

Yes I remember those 911 days. Unbelievable...but lemme just break the solemnity to inject some humour albeit a bit off topic as my unforgettable one was when newsreader Timothy Go suddenly coughed and coughed...he was so embarrassed.

the 1983 singapore cable car accident that was hit by the oil rig platform 'Eniwetok' at S'pore WTC

the scene outside the present day vivocity - last time was called world trade centre and exhibition centre - was a sea of ambulances and flashing lights....was wondering why the massive traffic jam, I was on SBS service 30.

And just the night before a friend and I came back from Kusu Is outing and we were up at Mt Faber and took photo of the oil rig....was wondering, wah, that tower of the oil rig was so close to the cable....

and the next night, the accident happened

The other one I can think of was the monster dad josef fritzl who imprisoned his own daughter for 24 years in an underground dungeon in their own home n fathered quite a number of kids with her. The kids never saw light all that time till shortly before his arrest.
