food/household stuff in shopping trolley

Postby LOLMum » Fri Sep 09, 2011 8:05 pm

okay, how do you put these stuff into that tiny pathetic shopping trolley (haha some are acutally huge). do you just throw everything in or you separate the products accordingly? like you dont put meat next to bread or fresh fruits etc.

i see people (not just maids) just dump them into it. it doesnt matter if frozen stuff (pizza, vegetables, wanton etc), meat (including those placed in plastic bag) especially fish/prawns are placed on top of fruits (some in plastic, some not like banana, some wrapped up like watermelon, papaya), bread, diapers etc.

sometimes i see floor, toilet detergent placed on top of bread/cakes.

I'm very particular. I make sure my meats are nowhere near my fresh fruits and vegetables. It's just unhygienic to put raw meats and detergents next to fruits and other food produce you might consume without cooking.

I don't use trolley. I make different trips to get things.

One trip to get all the household items- detergent, soap, toiletries.

Another trip to get all the wet things like meat, vegetables, fruits.

Another trip for dry things- cans food...

I would usually put the wet (eg frozen stuff) and toxic (eg laundry detergent) into a plastic bag.

I normally get the toiletries and detergents on separate trips from fresh food stuff.. ..easier for me to use the delivery service provided.
If need to will put a basket in the trolley and thus can avoid mixing.. ..

I put a basket in trolley for fresh, chilled & frozen items to avoid over-handling. Just lift the whole basket onto the cashier counter.

Use more neutral household items to separate the more toxic items from food but I seldom need to buy toxic stuff, as I used them v sparingly. Minimal housework lah..

I have a cold bag for seafood and meats and another for dairy and chilled food. Veges, fruits and provisions go direct into the trolley. Detergents and such usually go to the bottom of the trolley.

wow good to know that we dont dump things into the trolley blindly.

but if your maid is the one doing the shopping, better remind them to separate the stuff.
