Hello?? Where are your manners?

Postby BeContented » Wed Oct 26, 2011 3:13 pm

Do share what is considered basic manners to you. Recently, I have been encountering them and some of them really get on my nerves.

Hopefully after reading the contributions, we are more aware and try to make some changes & be more considerate to each other.

My lists go like this ....
Parents allowing their children/toddler to :
-- wear their shoes & walk around in other people's house. To me, as long as the toddler has walked 10m on outside ground, the shoe is considered dirty.

-- open and ransack other people's fridge, drawers or entering people's room and sit on their bed without permission.

-- meddle/dismantle the lego construction on display in the host's house.

-- banging on piano at other people's house

What about yours?

One person's son liked a toy so much he asked to bring it home. I said no because my son liked that toy very much too.

Ha ha....same here. Have also done that before :)
Frankly, in my case....if it is STILL in my house, then probably it is BECAUSE the kids (or sometimes me  due to sentimental reasons) still want it around

Parents allowing their kids to hit them without any effort to rectify & discipline is a big no-no for mi!

- comes in, straightaway set up the x-box/kinect games without asking
permission
-whine and kick up a fuss if she loses, SHE MUST WIN every game
- goes to my son's room and takes whatever lego display she likes
worse:
-never ask permission to do so
-never puts back
-leaves behind tissues/cups/wrappers without cleaning up

that 10 year old spoilt brat is my husband's niece
I told him that she is not allowed to come here if he is not around (bec
he will clean up after her :stupid: :stupid: )

not just spoilt by her parents but my husband too
strange enough (and luckily), he is much stricter with his son so no such
nonsense allowed in our house since he was a toddler. He is not allowed to do that in other people's homes too...Only recently he starts to grumble about her bad behaviour  I mean she's already 10 not 1 years old.. :stompfeet:

Sometimes, really no choice. I too have a friend's wife whom for the last 2-3 years allowed her children to 'destroy' my son's lego display each time they appear, ignoring DS's objection. And she can still laugh and proudly claim her kids enjoy and good at dismantling things....

Each time after their visit, poor DS grumbled & sometimes cried cos' it's his hard work & effort and to reconstruct take time (those big items, lego city type). Recently, I got myself a high cupboard and place them right at the top.....out of reach for the kids. But guess, damaged done.....a lot of them are incomplete liao.

oh my spoilt niece who is only 5 yrs old... and her sis who is 4 yrs old

- comes to my hse, takes out all the toys, throws them ard but nvr keep them back properly...

- saw my DD's hairclips, insisted its theirs & demands to bring it home..

- ransack the fridge & cupboard for snacks, then when the mum sees them eating ( they're nt supposed to), they were quick to say i'm the one who gave it to them.. what the... :stompfeet:

countless times i hv complained to their mum but her mum just cant be bothered... her reply: they are just kids...

but to me is that if u as a parent dun even bother to teach ur kids basic manners & politeness... hw would they learn???

i hv stopped my kids from mixing too much with them.. as much as i can
