Are You Looking Forward To Chinese New Year?

Postby Lilac66 » Mon Jan 16, 2012 12:29 pm

I talked to a few friends, apparently some feel that it's the same every year. They dread meeting relatives whom they do not meet ay all for the rest of the year.

For me, I'm looking forward to it, but preparations seem more exciting than the actual day somehow. But then again, it's really not anything as enjoyable as my childhood time. <Lao Liao  >

A big YES!

I am looking forward to my popiah party for reunion dinner.
I hope it will be as good as the reviews.
I love popiah.

I am looking forward to meeting my father in law and sister in law from Malaysia, both whom I have not seen for a year!
I somehow get along well with my in-laws.

I am looking forward to visiting a rich relative during CNY.
He will always treat us to a nice meal.
He was my DH's guardian when DH was studying in Singapore.
Of course DH will give him an ang pow which usually covers for the meal.
But I look forward to his dining destination, as most of the time, as his choice is great.
He and my FIL were schoolmates in Malaysia, so together with his family and mine plus my in - laws, we will have a big group gathering which is so fun!
I only don't like CNY when it comes to the markets and supermarkets because of the crowd.

Yes to everything leading up to CNY and the gatherings. No to having to visit MIL and visit a place that's full of negativities.

YES! I look forward to any long holidays.. including CNY..

On a serious note.. CNY itself is not as exciting.. Maybe one of the most important factor is that we don't have 4 seasons.. hence, the feel of CNY itself isn't very meaningful.. Unlike in places like china where CNY = cold winter is over and welcome the start of Spring.

Another reason is that we can't play with firecrackers.. that takes away much of the fun.. the sound and the lights is an essential part of CNY celebrations.. coz it scares away the "nian".. an important element related to CNY celebrations..

Other then that.. SG CNY seems too overly commercialized.. not so fun already..

I do. Unfortunately, this year no celebrations for us.

I enjoy the preparations, the baking of cookies, putting up the decorations, preparing the new clothes and beddings, etc. I also enjoy the various gatherings, especially the mahjong sessions. Hehe.
