would you let your uni kids have tuition?

Postby LOLMum » Tue Mar 06, 2012 8:25 am

looking at how so many of our little ones (kindy to jc, unsure about poly) need tuition and relying too much on it, what if your uni kid say he needs tuition?

say no or get one for him?

My son doesn't like to go to tuition. So I think he never ask me for tutition in any level.
hehehe......
Uni studies are group studies.discussion.not tutoring.
but my DH did tutoring his batchmates for free.
He prefered to do that cos better preparation for him too.
After he finished his Masters,he said I can start tutoring the uni students. He actually planned to print flyers then he dropped the idea cos I discouraged.

DH and I dole out tough love. In the eyes of our relatives and close friends, we are bad parents. They wonder why we are so 'heartless' in our approach to childrearing. We let them muddle in the puddle. We fish them out only when necesssary.

So will we let our kids have tuition at that stage in their lives?
If and when they step into Uni, it's their pasal. They are on their own. If they need tuition, we will ask them why? Needless to say, they arrange and pay for it themselves.

At that age, hard to interfere, except with pursestrings.

Need to wean the support at some stage; the earlier the better.

At uni time, best to learn to be independent in living as well - a hostel stint or student exchange program overseas may help. Teaches them to manage clothes/laundry, grocery shopping to some extent, manage their time etc.

If not go to work how?

:hi5: same here. Not even sure if DH & I would have enough to put 2 consecutively (cos only 1 year apart) in uni. My kids should be counting their blessings if we can pay for them in full, otherwise they better do some part-time to help pay their fees. Can forget about tuition.....

I would even expect my kids to be capable of doing the laundry or cook a simple meal occasionally

no need to wait till uni age to learn to do housework. my dds help me to do simple chores like folding clothes, sweeping the floor and washing their dishes. In fact, when dd1 was 12yo, she will even help me to wash the toilets - even tho i don't ask her or expect her to do that. my mom said that she's better than me at 12yo than when i was a 12yo
