Bad grades, so teen sues school

Postby pinky » Mon May 28, 2012 10:25 am

saw this news in today's ST:
A 18-yr old girl in Australia has sued her elite school after failing to qualify for the law course of her choice. She felt that there was no support given to her to really excel.
The school's rep revealed that she has been suspended from school several times, was poorly organised, absent frequently and did not complete her school work.
As expected, she received little public sympathy with comments like:

1. students and parents should be responsible for their own success or failure.

2. a sense of entitlement from students and parents that teachers should give them what they think they have paid for

3. the parents and the girl should be ashamed of themselves because instead of taking a blow and bounce back, she is up in arms and blaming everyone but herself

4. it will be a tragedy for the teaching profession if the girl has her case upheld

It also raised the question about what parents should expect from expensive private schools and perhaps from elite schools.

if you do eat macs, and if you are fat, and if you are in the usa, you should sue - might even win if class action!

Education has become a commodity. Customers are king and they are always right.

interesting piece of news. this girl really takes education for granted. the case should not be upheld.

Errrr......aren't we parents already doing the same thing here in Singapore? Everything seems to be MOE's fault isn't it?
