Talking about gender equality in Singapore

Postby iRabbit » Wed Dec 05, 2012 10:28 pm

I noticed that whenever a male teacher is charged with having sex with a student, his name will be splashed big-big in the media. But when a female teacher gets charged, her identity gets hidden. Why the decrepancy?

Really impressed with the gender equality being practised here. Dads like me will naturally feel double standard. Hence, I especially would like to hear from the mummies, their views.

SINGAPORE - A former teacher has been charged with having sex with a 13-year-old boy. The 32-year-old mother was at the time of the alleged offences, a primary school teacher.

She faces five counts of consensual sex with an underage boy and one count of committing an obscene act.

Both the woman and the boy cannot be named due to a gag order.

The alleged incidents took place between May and July 2011.

Court documents said the sexual acts supposedly took place at Sembawang Park, a staircase at Choa Chu Kang Loop, Yishun Ring Road and her house.

If found guilty of having consensual sex with an underage boy, the former teacher faces a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine.

For committing an obscene act with a child, she could be jailed up to five years and fined S$10,000.

The woman is out on bail of S$10,000. CHANNEL NEWSASIA

The law protects minors, both male and female. It's not about the gender of the teachers. If a male teacher is accused of a relationship with a minor female student, identities will be hidden too.

Err... so is this the rallying call for the creation of AMARE to protect the rights of the often maligned gender of the human kind?

You are so wrong. The identity of the male perpetrator will be splashed all over the front pages of various papers.

Nope! Not when the victim is a minor and the court has ordered the gag order.

I just found out what you stated to be true ... except in Jonathan Wong's case. Anyway I'm not condoling the actions of these people.
