Postby tankee » Thu Apr 11, 2013 10:05 pm

A CYCLIST is in intensive care, possibly with spinal injuries and a blood clot in her brain, after a hit-and-run accident in Mandai Road on Tuesday night.

Madam Rosnah Rauaeewas riding towards Yishun Avenue when a black Honda Accord apparently hit the clinic assistant, but did not stop.

The police have classified the case as a hit-and-run, and confirmed last night that a 38-year-old male driver is assisting with their investigations.

The Straits Times understands he is a serviceman from the navy.

STOMPer Lim's sister saw a driver in blue camouflage uniform hit a female cyclist and then drive off. When her sister caught up with the driver to confront him, he denied that he had hit anyone, before driving off again.

This was despite the fact his windscreen had been smashed on the left side from the collision.

Another driver at the scene of the collision said that the man had already been driving unsteadily along the BKE before the Mandai Road exit, prompting him to high-beam him at the time.

The STOMPer also sent in a picture of the cyclist's damaged bike, along with a shoe belonging to the woman.

STOMPer Lim wrote:

"This incident happened last night (Apr 9), along Mandai Road.

"A black Honda Accord hit a female cyclist and drove off without stopping.

"My sister was driving behind the car and saw the whole incident. She went after the guy in her own car.

"When he pulled over, he claimed that he did not hit anyone even though the left side of his windscreen was smashed.

"My sister told him to go back to the accident scene, but he simply drove off again.

"The poor female cyclist's daughter called for information just now. She is now in ICU due to a spinal injury and a blood clot in the brain.

"God bless the cyclist who got hit. May the driver be caught and severely punished."

A spokesperson for the Singapore Police Force said:

"Police received the call on Apr 9 at 9.55pm informing of an accident along Mandai Road towards Yishun Avenue 1 before Mandai Avenue.

"Upon police arrival, it was established that an accident involving a car and a cyclist had occurred.

"The female cyclist was conveyed conscious to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.

"Investigations are ongoing."

Mandai Road 'hit-and-run' suspect visits victim in intensive care

The driver at the centre of a suspected hit-and-run case visited the victim in intensive care yesterday.

The 38-year-old navy serviceman - who is assisting police with their investigations - went to see Madam Rosna Rauaee as she drifted in and out of consciousness at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.

She suffered spinal injuries and a blood clot in her brain after she was hit by a car in Mandai Road, towards Yishun Avenue, at about 9.30pm on Tuesday.

The clinic assistant, who is in her 40s and married with two daughters, was riding along the popular cycling route with a group of friends, when the black Honda Accord apparently hit her but did not stop.

Do make sure the bicycle is properly equipped with deflectors, etc.
