Journalist from Yahoo Singapore scolds President w/ F* word

Post by chenwj » Thu Jun 27, 2013 6:23 pm

i saw the screen capture of Andrew Loh scolding our president Tony Tan using the F* word circulating in my Facebook feed yesterday. IMHO, that kind of post coming from a Yahoo reporter is unacceptable. Freedom of speech has its limits. I'm not sharing that screen capture here as I find it extremely distasteful and offensive.

This is today's straits times report on the matter:

Omg, why is this person so rude? As a reporter and a human being (he is educated, right?) how can he spout expletive at the president?

minus the *F word, he had asked a question which most people are wondering.

Interesting to note that the ST never mention about the part where Andrew asked where he was.

Some are expecting the President to do something or to be more active. I believe there are misconceptions on the office of the President. I have to point out that the President is a ceremonial role, not an executive role (but he has a say over reserve matters and diplomatic matters). The executive role lies with the government, so the government should take the lead in the haze issue.

The president did say something about the haze issue, IIRC.

The chairman of the Council of Presidential Advisers will be the Acting President if the President is on official leave. As I mentioned in the earlier post, I still think it is not appropriate if the President was seen directing or interfering in the executive (i.e: the government) as it can be inferred that the government is incompetent.
