There's such a thing as a Nurses' Day? That's cool! Is it international?

Not sure if it's international. But in Singapore, all the nurses will celebrate this - and they deserve to.

Nursing is a very respectable job, but it involves a lot of things that most people will not want to do. One nurse who chose to work in a health screening clinic once told me that the job was much better compared to being a nurse in a hospital ward as the latter would involve 'wipe backside everyday'. I'm sure there are many other unglamorous tasks, which make these nurses so much more respectable for willing to do it as part of their job of caring for patients.

It is also a tough job as most of the nurses would have to accept that they will have to do shift work, on roster basis. For this reason, i think a lot of nurses have not been able to have a relationship and family, and quite a few remain single - but they would still continue to do a good job at caring for patients.

They do not get enough recognition and appreciation.

Happy Nurses' Day.
