Elections dept should explain indeed.
They even had CCTV last time (presumably still there), so records should have been kept quite accurately right?

Much as I like TCB ( such a warm person , I have met the man going about his morning walks) I do think that the counts must have tallied and would have been be recorded.

In a statement issued on Friday, the ELD stressed that the discovery of the boxes have “no implications on the secrecy of the vote and electoral process”.
“They are supposed to have been collected by the Elections Department’s contractor, along with other discarded items, from the counting centres for general disposal,” the statement said.
“Discovery of used empty ballot boxes would mean that these were missed by the contractor at the point of collection for disposal,” it added.
In a separate statement, the police confirmed that a report on the matter has been lodged.
“The persons interviewed by the police have told the police that the ballot boxes were empty when they found them, with no ballot papers inside. Preliminary investigations indicate that these were empty boxes left behind in the counting centre intended to be disposed of,” it said.
It added that investigations are still ongoing, “including confirming what has been uncovered thus far, and the Attorney-General’s Chambers will be addressed upon completion of investigations”.

Obviously, there are loopholes in the system.

Aren't all the boxes numbered? Don't they keep track of each and every ballot box and made sure every one of them are collected? Even if they are not used, they should have been collected back to keep proper accounts, no? It's weird.

Come back again when people actually find some ballot slips in the longkang or something like that. Sheesh.

'honest mistake' is becoming quite rampant.

I rather just wait and not waste everyone's time for another PE. The PE is quite inconsequential anyways.

I believe it is merely not disposing those ballot boxes according to procedure. Not all boxes will be used in the repacking of the votes after counting.

Honest mistake again. Let's move on :)
