if not for competitive running, you should go and try out to see which is a good fit and comfortable and what suits your budget. ask the sales person for advice too.

i got a New balance recently after trying out all other brands.

but still, like all other sports shoe that i wore before, my giant toe hurts after a while. could it be due to sock? should i get 'toe-d sock'?. did not get a size bigger as it will be too loose. it has been 6-7 yrs since i last wear a pair of running shoes!

Those "toed-shoes" can easily cost $200 a pop! :yikes:

The podiatrist whom my ds consulted seems to highly recommend New Balance and Asics shoes.

I had a similar problem years ago. At teh store , the shoe seems perfect fit , can wriggle my toes in it, but after a couple of jogs , the toe-nail pain will start.
A salesman advise gave me the solution. May be it will help you too when you buy your next pair. For the comfortable shoe size, once you have put your feet in the shoe. Push it all the way in till you feel your big toe touching the front part. Then at the heel end you should have enough spacing for your pointer to slide in easily. Because sometimes there is some space near the other toes but the side of big toe may be is slightly rubbing against the side of the shoe. In that case your feet cannot move to the front of the shoe.

So far, my experience is New Balance and Asis are quite the value for your money.

But let me confess I did get a pair of Nikes last year just for its looks :faint:

Oh, so my friends do give sensible advise
Asis has quite a range for different sports. Quite durable and comfy. DD's CCA coach recommended it.

Actually we were looking at New Balance more from a school shoes (all white) perspective. Managed to find a wide foot model at HK citygate outlet but unfortunately it only lasted 6 months with ds's elephant stomping...

We are actually hoping to find full leather all white school shoes so that dc's feet doesn't smell.... But that is like almost impossible.
