Must Tax Be Increased?

Postby WeiHan » Sat May 17, 2014 2:43 pm

Increased tax counter a prosperous economy. The higher the tax is, the higher the burden on a vibrant economy.

A few days ago, the Austalian government just announced that they will axe a significant number of civil servant to cut government spending. This is really an exception rather than the norm. In this world when iron rice bowl is no longer the norm, should civil servants still expect stable position with rather high renumeration and benefits?

Should all governments try to contain spending in government and reduce its size instead of ever increasing tax? Government should try to streamline its instead of ever increasing size from dept to new depts and bigger depts with more higher paying posts.

Why do you assume taxes always go to funding the g'ment.

How about increased taxes to fund social programmes?

You do know that one of the complaints about Singapore is that our tax rates are too low, right?

Actually, the complaint about Singapore is other people's tax rates are too low - the definition of "the rich" being "someone whose income is more than mine".

The topic trending now in cyberspace seems to be CPF min sum, not taxation... :siam:

I advocate higher tax rates and is more than willing to pay higher tax rates... as long as my take home pay increases after paying off the higher tax rates.

But this is Singapore... we are more likely to pay more tax and take home less.

Tax is Singapore much lower than many other countries. Why you think those rich Foreigners seek PR status here?!

It is not good enough to just compare with countries which have the most shitty tax rate.

It is almost as if you know what problems high tax rate will bring and yet you still aspire to "better" than them.
