I didn't really follow the whole case, only have an idea that 9 drug dealers or drug mules were recently executed for their crimes.
From what I have gathered, Sukumaran and one Andrew Chan embraced Christianity while in prison. Appeals have been made to spare their lives but Indonesian President didn't grant them clemency.
Here is the letter the mother wrote:

As a mother myself, I felt that her letter is unfair and denigrate the system of law and justice. If Sukumaran or Andrew Chan were my sons, I would accept the fact that they had to pay for their crimes. Besides, they were fully aware of the consequences of their actions and took the risks.
What they did in prison does not eradicate the seriousness of their crimes. The mother should be consoled that her son had turned over a new leaf in prison but not use it as an excuse to frustrate the course of justice.
